LS460 Brake Actuator Noise
#33
Brought my '10 LS Sport in for 10K service and told them about the brake pedal clicking issue. I mentioned the TSB regardiing the actuator and left the car.
Got a call and was told that the issue was not the actuator. The noise they heard was a single click when the pedal was depressed and that the actuator issue was a series of much louder clicks. I asked if it wasn't the actuator, then what causes the click. I was first told it was "brake pad shift" - which made no sense. I was then told that, no, it wasn't brake bad shift. It was actually something common to 2010 models and/or related to my Bembo brakes but couldn't say specifically what caused it. That made any sense either to me either.
Ultimately, I told them that I had heard a series of clicks on occassion and they agreed to replace the actuator. Have to bring the car back in.

My car(2010 LS460L)) was fixed by some good but fussy techs, at least so far. The noise is gone, the brakes are smooth and quiet, the pedal action is quiet, and to me there even seems to be less front end dip when stopping. They had the car for several days making sure the brake lines were properly bled, and that the pedal acton was adjusted. This is the second LS I have had, and I am now very satisfied with Lexus afer this repair. Brakes have not been one of their stong points in the past, but I think they have it right now. I will report if there are any further developments, but so far after a week, it feels and sounds great. They fixed the glove compartment sticking as well. The car now has about 3000 miles and is finally brand new. Despite the hype, with cars this complicated, I expect some adjustments to be made during the new car period, and as long as they make them without arguement (which they did), I am now extremely satisfied with the car and service.

I have an 08 LS460 and I have the series of popping sound when we engage the brake. I took it in a few weeks ago. They replaced the acutator, bled the brake line, and the problem persists.. i brought it to a second dealer to look at that. And they bled the brake line again and that didn't fix the problem either.. Right now they have my car and the head mechanic want to talk to Lexus to see what they should do.. (crappy).. But we have a brand new mid level RX350 (one with Nav and premium sound) for loaner so we are o.k. for now.. But it is pretty annoying that they cannot fix it in the first couple attempts... Hopefully, third time is a charm...

Apparently our tech talked to Lexus enginneer and decided to resurface the rotor and replace the brake pad.. Let's hope that will help. We will pick up the car today and see if it fix the problem.

Got the car back for about a week now.. Resurfacing the rotor and new brake pad did not solve the clicking sound problem. However, the frequency is much less and the noise level is much lower also (may be we don't heard some of the clicking sound since the noise is so low now).. It is much more tolerable now.. Will see how long does this fix last.. Since I have only a 3 yr lease, the warranty will cover this car so I am o.k even though it is just a temporary fix...

Just had the brake actuator job done yesterday. The brakes are now very quiet - no clicking/popping noise. Didn't realize how annoying the noise was until I got the car back and drove it without the clicking. The difference is day and night. Hope it lasts!
