I have an LS600hL on order too. Congratulations, and welcome to Club Lexus.

One reason I can't ever pull the trigger on buying a Mercedes is that I can't tell the cars apart. I just can't see buying a $180K car that looks just like an $80K car. Now purists do know the difference, I don't. And I never have bought one.

I am assuming that the LS600hL will be MUCH more reliable than its Mercedes or BMW counterparts. That's a huge reason why I'm buying the car. I'm counting on the Lexus/Toyota culture to stand behind this being their flagship car, and counting on its reliability. I simply don't have the time for a unreliable car.

As far as what others think, who cares. Buy this for you, not them.

I would have bought the 600 is if were avaialble when I bought my 460L. I dont care about AWD since I am in So Cal. I do however like the Leather dash, which I have had on all my previous cars. That is the one part the 460 is missing, and for the life of me can not figure out why it was left off. I think the LED headlights are worth the price of admission alone!

they look the SAME to me?
the skin is exactly the same in the 2 cars.. what's the difference?

say.. a 330 to a M3 is different due to fender flares, but not LS460/600..
hell.. i can't tell the difference between a RX400h and RX330/350 (ok, the fog light is different, BUT THAT's it)

In Europe, they also have diesel 7/S/A8s and even Jag XJs an they have V-6s of these cars as well

In reviews when the BMW/Benzs etc get pricey in V-12 or AMG guise, where they are in Porsche/Aston/Bentley etc territory, your comment is echoed.

I remember Clarkson one time saying about the S65 I believe "I can't help but remember this car started as a S 350".

Not taking away from any of these cars at all, they are all fabulous in their own way.

Clearly the Lexus 600 has further differentiated itself outside just a bigger engine (5.0 vs 4.6). You get all those extra goodies already mentioned.

And blue badges.

Even the "base" LS600hL model in Canada will not have full leather dash

A US$70K LS430UL has a full leather dash, but now a "loaded" $85K-$94K LS460L won't have a full-leather dash They should have put full-leather dash on the various "premium packaged" L models.

Actually, come to think of it, the LS430UL have leather just on the glove box & the sides of the center console area right ?

But the glove box/lower half of the dash of a loaded LS460L is vinyl, not leather ...

IIRC, some versions of the LS 430 UL had some kind of stitching on the glove box, which may indicate black leather. However I don't ever recall seeing mention or in real life a full-leather dash which is billed for the LS 600h L.

yeah that's what i was referring. for the top dash i don't think any of the ls430ul was like that, otherwise i would have know. but i recall the lower part of the dash (glove box, etc..) coz' i remembe making that comment when i opened the glove

The LS430UL also has leather on the door handles as well. The leather dash would have been a real nice touch...

What cars does your friends drive (sethyg)? It just sounds like they are just jealous! You should just told them you wanted the top of the line Lexus, end of story. The very best Lexus has to offer.
And MB is much worse like the DOC was saying:

You can buy an nice S550 and CLS63 with S65 money...

Or like Lexus says (and many reviews agree), the LS 600h L is "the most technologically advanced car on the planet."

Does the part of the dash that is not leather in the 460 feel horrible or does it feel like leather?

This is a leather dash, you can see the stitches, plus there is a visible outline for the passenger side airbag for the leather dash :





This is a vinyl dash, & the passenger side airbag is hidden behind the dash with no outline like the leather one shown above :




Actually, I think the vinyl feels pretty good & high quality.
