Default Youtube video, makes a joke out of lexus park assist.

Check this Video out, its obvious that the guy purposely made the alignment of the parking arrows take an extremely long time. There are many other videos out there that basically just tap 3 to 4 times, and they are done.

There have been feedback that the Lexus Parking system takes QUITE a long time, but obviously not this long.

What an insult to a great car.

The guy just doesn't know what he is doing or is a shilll from another auto manufacturer and is hell bent on making a mockery of the LS's capabilities.

I agree the park assist is not that practical for a very busy street, but one gets better & efficient in using it after a small trial & error period.

That's pretty good, I can't get mine to work anymore. It's all out of wack. I used it like 5 times, the flags will never turn green and I can't get the flag off the curb.

When the unit first came out I saw magazine writers tested the system and posted it on Utube, they tried to make the system from a parallel position back into a parking space that it was not designed to do and they were laughing and making fun of the system on purpose.

The autopark is a feature that I'm not inclined to defend ...... I paid for a feature that's almost useless to me ...

It's been ten days since I've had my new car. I tried it sporadically (without checking the manual) and got (yes, you guessed it) sporadic results. So, I turned to the manual yesterday, and when I follow the instructions to the letter in the manual, the car nails it every time. So really, this guidance system works like magic, if... (and a big if here) the operator uses it like Lexus says it should be used. I figure by next week I should be able to "tap-tap-tap", and it's done.

getting it to work is no problem, seriously i got it to work the first time when i got my car home without even looking at the manual

but the time it takes, still, no way i would use it when i am really parking on a street not within my community

Three important things were explained in the manual and I really would not have known had I not checked: 1. the critical angle of the car for a perpendicular space; the location of the camera limits the computer from making a correct approach, so Lexus recommends an angular start - the greater the angle, the more the camera can see, and therefore the better positioning of the box. 2. The box can be adjusted by touching the screen at the desired position, then using the arrows to fine tune it. This skill can be improved and sped up over time. 3. For parallel parking, the car must be positioned accurately relative to the other parked cars before putting the car in reverse in order for the sensors to compute the right entry approach, and assist the operator to fine tune the position of the box.

Because as Lexus correctly explains, this is strictly a guidance system and not an auto-parking device, there are limitations, and this is why some naysayers have piled on unfairly, criticizing it in the media as a frivolous toy. Those idiots haven't done their homework and obviously have their biased agendas. There may be a better system down the road, but the best barometer is the response and mouth watering reactions caused in other car manufacturers' engineering offices. Lexus has delivered an amazing working system way ahead of anyone else, and have left their stunned detractors winded and eating their dust. Kudos to Lexus!

Well said, Burnaby! I thought it was rather silly that Top Gear tested the system with the manual in hand but not having read it.
