Default Black Opal 600hL being built (now confirmed & built w/pics)

Has anyone seen or heard any information as to when or if they are actually building the 600 in Black Opal? According to my dealer the car has not yet been produced with that color and they do not know when production will begin. That's the color I have ordered (May 06) and my patience is understandably wearing thin at this point more due to lack of information than not being able to wait for the car.

Thats odd... if they are doing a Special Order for you, they should know that answer by now..
(May 06' ?)

Which dealership in NJ are you dealing with??

I have a Good friend that works @ Ray Catena Lexus in Oakhurst, NJ that would know this information.
If its not being allocated by the plant in Japan... but is available to build, he will Special Order you one in Black Opal ..

Let me know

My dealer is Ray Catena Lexus. They are telling me that none have been built in black opal and that my car will be built as soon as the factory starts producing them in that color. I am trying to determine if anyone knows if and/or when they will build them. Or if they are and my dealers info is incorrect.

Your dealer is correct in its statement to you. It'll never happen, imho.

If its really important to your, buy an Obsidian, and get it top-coated with the color you want.

It's gonna cost you a fair coin though.
?? black opal is the exclusive color that's available only for the ls600hl. it's not an imaginary color, it's in their spec

I will say it again, there's absolutely no excuse that the dealers are not informed when the Black Opal (or any other colors) will be delivered.
If I ordered a car more than a year ago, at least let me know how much longer I have to wait. Had it been me I would have lost patience already & pulled out months ago. Totally unacceptable for a $120K car . . .

I think it's a mirage. We're so thirsty and tired that we're seeing things.

Well then may I offer you a drink?

Anyhow, Lexus.com has a picture of Black Opal but it looks so close to regular black it's hard to tell:

http://www.lexus.com/lexus-share/ima...black_opal.jpg

Interestingly, the IS/ES/RX/etc. have newly replaced the photos with multi-reflective views that perhaps give greater approximation of the color. Meanwhile, I found this image which, while not the best, does show the rich purple hue.

Even Lexus' European sites are using a similar hue for their hybrid intros, such as the main flash animation on Lexus Hybrid Drive for http://www.lexus-europe.com/index.asp

Actually, the difference will be quite apparent when you look at them under the sun. I find that to be the case seeing the Black Sapphire & the Obsidian Black outdoors under the sun. It's only when the light is dim that they look similar.
Although I haven't seen the Black Opal in person yet, but I tend to believe the Black Opal may be slightly lighter than the Black Sapphire, in addition to the purplish hue on the Black Opal.

I think this is the best close-up pic of the Black Opal paint I've seen. Personally, I won't accept Obsidian as a close substitute for Black Opal at all.
If it was me, I would wait for it.

They call the interior color "mellow white" in Europe. Really? How 60's.

That Black Opal looks strikingly similar to my Nighthawk Black Pearl on my 2004 Acura TL.
