Keep in mind this is the same company that will disable the seatbelt chime.

Can you tell me THAT'S not as much a legal liability as letting people use their nav while moving? After all, not using your seatbelt is against the law in all 50 states, and disabling the warning chime is helping people drive without their belt.

Fully concur. But I am willing to sign a waiver assuming full responsibilty and thus releasing "Mother Lexus" from the liability of my actions. Just treat me like an adult and let me use the features I paid for.

We are not retired but get a good amount of time off, and therefore travel a lot and this will be our last Lexus (5th one). Reliability is the only reason we kept coming back, but our son in college has convinced us, rightly so, that this is really a mute issue as we normally don't keep a vehicle past the warranty period.

Corporate Lexus wake up.... Listen to your customers. You only lose a customer once.

I have the 07 LS with the 7.1 upgrade.

As covered in the other thread, only the TV button that allows DVDs on the fly works with this combination thus far.

Mark of P.S. did some testing over the weekend and confirms that the LS with the 7.1 has issues with the unit.

I would guess the manufacturer will make an LS 7.1 friendly unit before long as all cars will eventually come with 7.1 which will leave their remaining market with the older version quite small.

Pat, perhaps you misunderstood our conversation yesterday. Over the weekend, we tested on 08 GS not LS with the 7.1 and it duplicated the issue with a 3GS client who upgrade to 7.1 on his 2006 GS. We have not confirmed but is continue to explore if the 7.1 has any effect on LS 7.1 Navi. Just want to clarify things.

Default Nav version

I have an 07 LS460 (May 07 build) and when I look at the version # (under HDD data), I see "Map ver.06.1". Am I looking in the wrong spot? I don't see 7.0.

Mine is an 07 LS460L, Feb 07 build, and it also says 6.1 ver. It is interesting to note that my wife's 07 RX350, May 06 build, also has 6.1 version.

There was no 7.0 for the LS that I am aware of.

My 07 came with 6.1 and I upgraded to 7.1 when it first became available.

My 07 LS came with 7.0 so you are not making the wrong assumption Rominl. It appears that some came with 6.1 (a guy at my gym has an 07 LS and he has 6.1) and others came with 7.0. What version is on your LS Henry?

^^ I think they changed over to the 7.0 late in the game just before the summer time for the remaining 2007 builds... not sure why since 7.1 was right around the corner on all 2008's...

Default Nav version

I called Lexus 800# today and they told me "all Lexus Nav systems work from CD's and are not hard drive based" (the last page of the Nav manual lists HDD data, but I guess the HDD does not mean hard drive?). Anyway, was told to call dealer to upgrade. Called dealer's parts dept and was told the cd to upgrade to 7.1 was not available yet. Did I get some bad info? If any of you upgraded to 7.1--how did you do it?

that shows you how silly some lexus corp customer services are as well as some dealerships

1) ls460 navigation are ALL hard drive based, period. no cd, no dvd.

2) all other lexus models, they are dvd based, NO cd (what can you store in a freaking 700mb cd...)

3) the necessary hardware for ls460 navigation update as well as the 7.1 software have been out since oct. some members here already got the updates. it could be the case that your dealership has no idea about the update or they don't have the hardware for it yet

hope this helps

Just want to put a quick update.

A client with the override module on his 600hL with the 7.1 upgrade since day 1. His unit is working perfectly fine. Overriding the navigation while the car is in motion, etc.

We are looking into a test vehicle with 7.1 that we can do the installation and verify the module is compatible. Thanks.

Thank you. Please keep us updated. The nav lockout is the MAJOR reason I'm not in an '08 LS right now.
