After you remove the the ashtray assembly and the two bolts that anchor the Radio, the front view of the radio (near the bottom) looks like this.
|___/<------------------------->\_____|
You can use a wide flathead screwdriver behind the "tabs" where the arrows point to "pop" out one side of the radio and then the other. Then it's real easy to pull out the radio.
Good Luck!

Sorry if I'm being dense here, but I think where your arrows are pointing to is down by the "flares" (e.g., below the main body of the radio) on each side below the head end?

sofware hack
So... all this graying out while moving is controlled by software. Software is nothing more than zeros and ones grouped together to form instructions. How hard is it to hack this thing on a software level, without having to hard wire anything?... I would guess that the challenge is to download a copy of the program out of the car into a laptop. After that it's all about analisys, changing bits and testing... after all it's all hard drive, not eprom so there's no "burning" of BIOS involved... am I wrong?

Lexus Test Driver
Someone is selling a replacement nave DVD with a software hack on craigslist and ebay for $50. You basically have to enter a key sequence on the touch screen to disable the lockout. The seller claims that the sequence can be entered while the care is moving, and lockout remains disabled until the engine is shut off. No change to DVD playback though. Does anyone have any more info on this?

Well.... Not entirely correct. On one had I totally agree with you that it's all BS, but on the other hand, it's totally possible. You can burn software to a DVD that when inserted into a DVD slot in your radio it will update NAV software. I don't think that's the case here, but there is always a chance.

it's just like in other cars, you have a SEPARATE dvd drive for the nav dvd, different from your cd/dvd changer
hope this clears

Prestigious Society works like a charm
I ordered the dvd/nav override from www.prestigioussociety.com and it works just exactly as promised. It was here in 3 days just as he told me and I had it installed in 1 hour and 15 minutes. I routed the tv/nav switch in the ash tray and used 2 sided tape on the inside of the ash tray door so when I close the ash tray door nobody knows it there. Very convenient place to put it. Great investment. Customer service was great!.
Thanks
