I was interested to read the repair procedure for the wind noise. There's a lot to it, plus quite the disclaimer saying that customer expectations for quiet may be unrealistic.
"A vehicle, such as LS460, which is one of the quietest vehicles on the market today, may tend to draw attention to normal wind turbulence or rushing sounds due to the relative absence of other ambient noises."

Oh, and thanks for the updates.

Thanks for the update information. I was especially interested to see how to decode the VIN and then see whether my car was under or over each of the problem areas. Fortunately, my VIN is over 20000 for my 07 LWB, putting it over the all of the problem areas (wind noise, transmission hesitation, etc.) that had a cut off VIN. This seems like very important information for a prospective buyer who may be buying a car that has been sitting on the dealer's lot, or is a slightly used or demo model. The adage about being careful buying the 1.0 version of software seems applicable to the 460.
Does it make sense to create a sticky where people can post their VIN (the last six digits, with the last two digits concealed, e.g. mine is 0205XX) and also indicate the date of production (mine was 07/07) and the model (mine is a 460L) so we can create table of the serial numbers and the production dates for each of the three models. Or maybe Lexus publishes somewhere.
BTW, does anyone know whether with a new model year they start the numbering at 000001 again, or does that increase if there is no substantial change? If it is the former, then one would need the model year also.
Being a newbie, I don't know whether this has already been done or whether this is useful.
Thanks.

Interesting idea regarding the VINs....I don't know whether they renumber or not. If owners are willing to share parts of their VIN maybe they can as part of this thread for now...or start a new thread asking about VINs and trying to figure out the prod. dates...

Sounds like a good idea for now, as a resource for current LS 460 owners.
Edit: based on current info, it cannot be stickied.

The whole "wind noise" issue with the new LS, and possibly with the ES is a combination of flaws with the vehicle combined with unrealistic expectations from customers.

Looks like "unrealistic expectations" are quite realistic if they can be fixed with the TSIB, as confirmed by many people.
I also had an unrealistic expectation of a smooth drive in my LS460. Or so I was told at the Carlsbad dealership. Both the dealer and the mechanic, who took a test drive with me, told me that this kind of vibration is characteristic to the LS460 and all of them drive like that. I asked if this could be an unbalanced tire, but they immediately dismissed the possibility. They had my car for 2 days and in the end they just advised me to lower tire pressure to 32 psi or buy 16-inch wheels.
Yesterday I took the car to Kearny Mesa Lexus. I didn't have to ask twice. Even without the test drive they suggested rebalancing of all tires and promised that the car will drive like a dream. The job was done the same day (they actually work around the clock 6 days a week) and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It does drive like a dream after tire balancing. In fact it is really the best ride I've had in a long while.
My advice to you all. If something doesn't feel right - find the dealership that will not ignore your problems.

There is not a definate fix for the LS wind noise at the moment, the TSIB is nothing but a piece of paper that gets updated weekly via conference calls between Master Diagnostic Techs and Lexus.
