Jettei1567 - If you want to lock the car with one key fob still inside the car you can do so by using your key fob rather than the push button on the door. I think when you lock the car this way you have to unlock it the same way when you return. My wife and I each carry a smartkey with us and occasionally this issue comes up.

Dave, I did use my key fob to lock the car and it will not lock because her fob was in her workbag in the car.

Jettie1767: My car is an ES350 rather than a LS460 as you have but I just went out and tried it again. With my wife's electronic key in the car I can't lock the car with the lock button on the door but I can do so by using the lock button on my elctronic key. After doing so the touch feature on the door handles will not work and I have to use the unlock button on the electronic key to unlock the door(s). I assumed that this same procedure would work on an LS but maybe it will not.

I am suspicious of the thread starter as I have found I am unable to lock the car with the fob inside. I also tested and can unlock the trunk with the soft button on the trunk lip if the fob is inside my tennis bag it is impossible to lock yourself out, other than to lose your fob.

I am the thread starter. What's to be suspicious of me? I never said that you COULD lock your keys in. I just said that you could unlock the car thru a cell phone. Now THAT sounds suspicious...but it works! Try it. Others here have verified it.

It is an urban legend and it doesn't and can't work.

Suggest you read the information at the following website:

Besides, even if this did work, and it doesn't at present, you still run the risk of locking your cell phone in the car along with the keys. By the way, I believe the manual points out a few instances in which the key fob could be locked in the car.

I am telling you I tried it and it absolutely works. Instead of arguing with me, try it and you'll see. Maybe some others who tried it after I initially posted will chime in here and confirm

Skill-testing question - does it work with a SmartKey??

And will people call the psyche ward if they drive by a guy holding a fob up to his cell phone?

Probably. But some would call the psycho ward on someone spending $70,000 on a car!

Hehe, well once you past the 200K barrier then heads need to be examined.

If I was able to enter the car through the cell phone magic, I guess I would still be unable to start the engine or drive the car, or is there some magic trick for that, also?

No magic way to start it. I admitted up front that there is really no practical use for this trick on the LS, but it's just a "gee whiz" thing that actually works!

It works. I've unlocked vehicles using a security camera system. I was in the main office in front of the screens (Car was parked about 20 feet from the camera). My friend tells me to do it through the screen and I, of course, begin to laugh at him. Hilariously enough, I pointed my transmitter at the screen and it locked it up.

*cue Twilight Zone music*

That's pretty cool. Now if only one could do something that would super-extend the HomeLink range.

OK how far was the key from the car when you tried this with a cell phone? Maybe the car was still in range of the key like if you tried it with the key inside your home while you were outside?
