at the taste of lexus training in miami we got to drive 4 600hl with executive seating packages and then crash them into a styrofoam block with a reflector on it to try the APCS it works great i had my head turned just to see how accurate the face recognition camera were, and they workded flawlessly. the car tugged my seat belt beeped and blinked and then applied the brakes

I didnt get the chance to drive it into a styrofoam wall like you did or to test out the eye monitoring system, however at the Evening Edition when they had the LS600h on the performance track, if you pushed it to hard in a corner, the seatbelts did tighten up and the brakes were applied. I guess it sensed one of the cones as a danger or something. LOL.

But the seatbelts tightening up while driving is a complete shock and will wake up anyone who falls asleep behind the wheel.

that is only if there is something coming from behind and hitting you, to prevent you from getting whiplash. i dont think US models have this though

so did the car actually stop itself before hitting the styrofoam? or does it just reduce speed before impact?

If anyone wants to volunteer to stand in front of my car I would be more than willing to see if will actually stop before hitting you.

.... just kidding of course.

Sad but true.

For whatever reason, this pleased my wife, who didn't like the idea of the car watching her.

Hehe, it's a bit like the HAL 9000 computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey. "Good morning Dave...I am watching you Dave..."

Hell, I feel like being watched by HAL in my LS460! "This function is turned off for your safety", "This text is not displayed while in motion for your safety", "The car is moving too fast, parking assistance is terminated" etc.

Launch Edition? I suppose if I do not know if my 600 is one, then it is not. :-)How does one differentiate?

Welcome to ClubLexus, GT Pilot.

You can tell if your vehicle is the launch edition by the placement of a "Launch Edition" plaque on the center console area, behind the shifter.

or look at your steering, top of the airabg. if you see a device here, it's launch. otherwise, no
