any word on when the LS460L will get AWD?

Sounds like you might as well go for those vehicles (very nice as well), as it's almost certain 2008 does not have AWD. As for 2009, who knows but that's the earliest. You'd think they could port the AWD system on the 600h to the 460 but evidently they're keeping that exclusive in at least the first year.

I'll bet a pepperoni pizza and a beer that they introduce it in 2009.
What the heck, make it 2 beers!

Well, after test-driving the LS, S, A8, XJ, 750, the LS is still in the running, even with RWD. I figure I could change to snows if I go with it or another RWD vehicle.

If you need it go with the S but I live in Pittsburgh and haven't had any real issues. I do have snow tires which make a big difference.
My advice would to be a short term S lease and then reevaluate your options in a 1 or 2 years.

At the time I was shopping for my LS in Feb. of this year, I also looked at the Infiniti M45. At the time they were only in RWD. I asked at several dealerships if Infiniti was planning on adding AWD to this model (the M35x is AWD). No dealer had any idea. I may have possibly held off buying if I knew the M45 would be offered in AWD. Well the other day I saw a M45 commercial showing the new M with AWD!
So if Infiniti can keep this info so close to the vest, I'm sure Lexus can as well. Maybe we will see it in the 2009 models.

What are you talking about? The M35 has been out in AWD for at least 2 years here in Pittsburgh.
Also, there is NO comparision. The M is a nice car but is a midsized vehicle that competes with the GS. The LS is a premium "alpha-male" vehicle...the flagship that competes with other flagship vehicles. Have you driven the M. Again, nice ride but NOTHING in the league of the LS.
