I'm buying a new 2008 LS 460 - I need help!
Before I take delivery of my new 2008 LS 460 SWB, I am going to have the dealer install the "wind noise fix," the "transmission hesitation fix" and upgrade the software to version 7.1. Will all those apply to the 2008 model? Is there anything else you'd recommend I ask the dealer to do before I take delivery? Thanx for your input!

Welcome to CL and good luck on your purchase, jlawr. Other owners will share their insights and probably add more info. The upgrade to 7.1 is pretty good, as it eliminates the "I Agree" screen. However it's likely that 2008 models do come with 7.1, so you might want to check your car when it arrives. The transmission hesitation was a software feature which helped fuel economy...which was then removable if the owner preferred.
As for the wind noise, you might consider test driving your car first. There are owners of 2008 LS 460s and some 2007s that have reported little to no problem with the wind noise. Evidently some extra quality control improvements were put in place towards later in 2007 and are now across the 2008s, although a redesign is rumored for 2009. In any case, the wind noise fix is a very invasive operaton which involves taking apart the doors and window assemblies to install laminated glass. If the dealer is good they can do a fairly seamless job but it is a big affair. Of course if you want the laminated glass then that is the way to get it for SWBs. But then again if you are able to test drive the car up to 70 mph+ and hear normal cabin noise, then you need not go through the fix.

The transmission TSB is only for vehicles BEFORE the production change VIN of JTHBL46F*75046335 for LS460 and JTHGL46F*75019253 for LS460L. From this, I'd assume that the TSB transmission programming is now the production version in every LS460 since.
In the totally unfounded wild speculation department, I'd guess that the original transmission programming provided just enough of a bump in gas mileage to get the 2007 LS a higher EPA number (16.9 without, 17.0 with, for example) that it was worth the occasional customer complaint. With the new 2008 EPA calculations, it probably didn't make enough difference - so they went to the new programming on all units.
That - Or some engineer thought it would be neat, but eventually didn't work that well in practice.

you can check with them on the tranny update. for the nav, don't worry, with 08 i believe you have 7.1 already
the wind noise, honestly, try to drive the car and see if you hear anything first. you do NOT want anyone to take your car apart unless you have problems. that's one more chance to HAVE problem

See the first paragraph in post 4 above.
The VIN break was for the 07 models. I had my 7-7 build checked at the dealer and it had the update from the factory.
All 08s should be fine.

No worries. The 08MY is refined from 07MY.
I've experienced no objectionable wind noise, transmission is smooth and 7.1 update is implemented. I've been very impressed with the MY08 LS460.
