It's quite easy to determine dealer invoice these days. There are several internet car sites that will give you exact dealer invoice (what the dealer pays Lexus for the car). Whether or not the dealer adds "extras" to jack up their invoice varies from dealer to dealer. Avoid these guys. I'm glad you got a good deal on your car, but I really doubt you bought it for $3500 below the dealer's true invoice...they aren't going to take a loss like that on any car.

If I had started with invoice and negotiated up, money would have been left on the table for sure.

You mean $3500 below MSRP, not dealer invoice. I don't know what the holdback was in 1996, but it couldn't be more than the current $1220 (SWB) to $1420 (LWB). If it were $3500 below invoice, the dealer would actually be taking about a $2500 loss. That isn't going to happen unless there were some special circumstances you didn't tell us ......... like it's your dad's dealership!

LEXUS holdback is 2% off invoice

destination charge of about $765 is given......there's nothing you can do about that

rebates are pretty much unknown........that's why you go at the end of the yr or month to get the best deal

The only rebate I ever saw was for $750.00 off any deal, from 'Taste of Lexus' in 2007. They mail you a coupon. Hopefully they'll do it again this year.

yes, I found out later there where special circumstances at the time. Apparently the SC400 where in very short supply and were going for like 15k over invoice. Dealers that moved the most LS models were given a much bigger allocation of SC400. So, sell a few cars at a 2500 loss in order to get a few cars that can be easily sold for a 15k profit. Makes sense to me. By back to my original point: if you hold a reverse auction with all the dealers in the area, the best possible price that takes into account all the possible market conditions and special circumstances will prevail.

Anyone buying a LS460 around this time? I was looking at a SWB and there's a place in FL for 8k off MSRP and $250 off the best negotiated deal. It's JM Lexus if anyones in FL. Trying to see if any of the more local dealers are willing to drop it. Trying to get a Navi SWB LS460 w/Mark Levison/Comfort Package for around 61k +TTL

Just picked up LS 460 SWB with Comfort/Park assist/navi, etc (no ML) for little over 60K+TT. Jan and Feb is a slow month and caught them at the end of the month. Dealers are pretty motivated right now.
