My brothers L threw a rod out of the head. I know he has under 10K miles, and the dealer has offered to do everything, up to and including replacement of the entire car. They are supposed to have the engine repaired and the car back to him next week. Anyone else ever heard of something like that happening to a new LS?

I'm STUNNED, but no car maker is perfect. Lexus is as close as you can get in my opinion. They are relentlessly pursuing perfection.
This is my next car. I wonder who has the most miles on this engine?

i dont know if i should post this all over the internet or not, but i had a ls460 come in today with a knock. i called our tech assistance and there are accounts of broken valve springs on a few ls460's. im tearing the motor apart tomorrow to see what it is.
there is a TSIB out for a knock at idle with the vehicle in drive. all it calls for is an update of the vehicle's ECM. i guess it raises the hydrolic pressure for the valve lash adjusters. unfortunately for this customer, this isnt the quick fix.
thought it was interesting. i read this post the last night, and i had this customer's car come in today. when i heard the noise, this thread immediately popped in my head.
either way, i know lexus is going to take good care of the customer and any customer that experiences anything wrong with their LS, as they should. this is one of those things that i am sure of that even if the car was out of warranty, lexus would foot the bill.

they really didnt give me a lot of information. they said they had seen/had reports of a few valve train issues on LS460s in the US. we send all defective warrantied parts back, but he made it clear to make sure any defective items be sent back for inspection especially for this concern. they seem to be on top of trying to find out what the cause is and how to repair it. he just told me what they had seen, told me to tear it down and report back what i found so they can document it and find the cause of the problem.
i would imagine that if this is found to be a significant problem, lexus will issue a service campaign to fix the cars before customer's even know there is a problem. IF, and IF it really is a problem, but i wouldnt go that far just yet. i dont think very many cars have been affected yet.
ill post up what i find tomorrow. our FTS (dealer rep) is going to be at our dealer tomorrow. im sure ill be talking to him on this issue.

My latest update is that parts for my brothers car are being searched for, valve spring, valve cover, other misc parts. The dealer is doing everything possible to placate my brother. He was offered the use of a brand new SWB 460 until the car is fixed. He turned it down and is in an ES loaner.

as long as the information i provide will in no way be used against lexus in a negative way. im really not even sure if i should be posting my customer's situation on the internet, i just thought it was weird that i saw this thread, then had this car come in for the same complaint. i know there are concerns for your own vehicle when something like this happens. i would put money on the fact that if there is a know problem, lexus as a company will be proactive on resolving the issues before their image is tarnished.
did they say why the valve cover needed to be replaced?
glad to see they offered a new car for your brother. looks like they are taking care of him. its nice to see him being cool about the situation as well. hopefully parts wont be that hard to come by...

Today's update is that the parts are all in town, car will be ready Friday. I suggested to my brother that he tells his salesman to expect a 30 day assessment period. I also told him that the least he should ask for (if he is totally satisfied) is that Lexus reimburses him the cost of the warranty extension. He prepaid for that upon the ordering of the car ($2100.00), but I think it would be fair for them to extend his warranty for free.

Be Thankful you don't drive a Cadillac !!!!!!!!
Just be thank ful you don't drive a Cadillac.
Here is the situation with my 2007 Cadillac Escalade.
I have had it with problems with my 2007 Escalade.
It's been in repair for so many issues including but not limited to:
Safety System Failures:
• Stabilitrack Failure
• Traction Control Failure
• Air Bag Sensor Failure
Mechanical Failures:
• Transmission – Replaced early this year.
• Replacement Transmission needed repair – Failed Valve Assembly (few months ago)
• Engine Noise from Belt – System Lubed
• 2nd Repair Engine Noise from Belt – Belt Tensioner replaced
• Navigation – Failed during a business trip leaving me lost in Riverside.
• Air-Conditioner – Failed during the 100 degree heat wave.
• 1st key fab stopped working – Leaving my wife stranded at the Thousand Oaks mall
• 2nd key fab failed working – Leaving me stranded at work
Other Hardware Failures & Quality Issues:
• Excessive wind noise from both front doors – Requiring 2 different repairs.
• Outer Door Trim warped during Memorial Day Weekend.
• Electrical Wiring near door trip floorboard exposed on 3 sides on initial purchase.
• 3rd row back seat panel loose
• Trim around Radio was scratched
• “Cut” in leather seat on second row.
I did speak with the service manager at my dealership where I purchased the car. He said and I do quote, "You havn't had enough problems or problems serious enough to qualify for a buy back".
Thanks,
Uzy Malik
(And "YES", I did just hire an attorney to get my car Lemon Lawed).

What a shame. Good luck to you with Cadillac. I was even thinking of a new CTS until I started reading the Cadillac Forum. Bad idea.
