I think this is partly due to the rear wheels being more sunken-in.
The tire to fender gap actually looks very similar front/rear from the side profile.
With a proper set of 22x9.0 + 22x10.5 it would look perfect...

yup, wheel gap looks about the same now. but on the other hand i always like the rear to have little less gap than the front. thus my comment
