Default Replaced two Bridgestone Tires with less than 10,000 Miles

Both of these tires picked up nails in the sidewalls, and the dealer recommended replacement over repair. In nearly 50 years of driving, I have never had to replace a tire (well one after an off road trip in a 4 wheeler), and within 10,000 miiles on my LS460l, there are now two new tires. Am I just just unlucky, or are others having similar issues with these tires. Just checking.

How did you get nails in the side walls? Your dealer is right though, you should never try to repair side wall punctures, only tread punctures.

I'd say after 50 years of extraordinary luck, the odds have finally caught up with you!

even if its near the sidewall it can still be rendered irrepairable. It is extremely dangerous to even try to fix sidewall and near sidewall punctures, patch will just pop off during tire flex and cause a blow out

You just have bad luck

I've replace 1 tire (chunk out of sidewall) and had 1 fixed (sheet metal screw in the tread) in 6K miles - both on the right rear. Bummer part was the 2 different tire shops both scrapped the paint off the 2 different rims, so now 2 of my 5 rims have already been refinished.

I can't imagine there's anything about the tires that makes them attract nails, so I wouldn't blame Bridgestone.

Yes it's always luck when it comes to nails. I've had to patch the tire on my SC430 twice, & it's always the right front that got the the nail ...

I agree luck has a lot to do with it, but I know a few people who make their own bad luck. They are very prone to driving too close to the very edge of the road/highway. If you've ever had the occasion to walk along the side of a highway, you will see more small junk and debris there than you can imagine. Some of the debris (nails, screws, bolts) can go right through a tire.

Here in the Boston area a major highway (Rte. 128) allows driving in the breakdown lane during peak morning and afternoon hours. I never drive in that lane just because the liklihood of picking up a nail increases exponentially (or at least a lot).

I had a corner puncture at 3K on the same tires you have. Lexus replaced it free of charge.
