Pardon me if this has been mentioned before, I don't monitor the board that much (as I just bought an S550 4matic). But I was at my local dealer today to test drive an LX570, and the word from him is that all LS460s will be AWD for 09. He seemed very sure of this.
Interesting move, given that Lexus didn't have it at all on the LS for so many years, yet is now going the Audi route of making it standard on the LS.

Lexus to launch LS 460 AWD at Moscow Motor Show
Posted on Monday 18 August 2008
Lexus currently sells an AWD version of its LS flagship in the form of the range-topping LS 600h but the carmaker is planning to add the same AWD set-up in the LS 460. Set to make its world debut at next week’s Moscow International Motor Show, the new LS 460 AWD will eventually go on sale in December.
The AWD system features the same compact Torsen limited-slip differential integrated on the rear drive shaft as the LS 600h but instead of being linked to an electronically controlled CVT, the LS 460 AWD system sticks with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The system splits torque 40/60 between the front and rear axles under normal driving conditions but changes the ratio to 30/70 front to rear when conditions become more demanding. Power from the car’s 4.6L petrol V8 engine remains at 381hp (280kW).
Lexus will also use the upcoming Moscow event for the local launch of the IS-F and to showcase its LF-A Roadster Concept.

The LS will always be a RWD car. AWD is now optional. Russia is huge emerging market, Lexus is now the #1 selling luxury brand there.
It makes tons of sense to debut an AWD LS there since its more NEEDED than here where its more WANTED (clearly the north/Canada needs it).
No word will it come here.

Pole Position
I understand your point, but my experience with 4WD when I drove Audi, gave me a secure feedback not only in snow - which it shone above all, but also on rainy or any slippery surfaces. The car tracked like it was on rails, and I now feel the same solid road manners on the 600, compared to the 460. The power distribution ensures positive road engagement with no runaway slip when you need it most. A car of the LS's caliber, weight, power and torque should not leave home without it.

I desperately hope it comes with decent rims - the uninspiring standard wheels are still holding me back and I can't get the Touring 5 spoke wheels on a non-long wheelbase LS and I am not a fan of aftermarket wheels.
AWD + sleek Lexus alloys and I'm sold. Fingers crossed ...

Anyone know how I get the five-spoke 19" wheels on a *SWB* LS460?
