cryhavok,

A better procedure is here:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ussion-28.html

If you will contact me, I will send you two of the metal patches and a higher resolution version of the picture/instructions.

Check the PM feature on this site for a message.

To get the best results possible, you should do the fix using the thin metal plate as well. This is Jeff's revised fix that he came up with several months ago.

Here is the latest news about the so called Lexus wind noise fix from my dealer. I was notified yesterday that the parts for the fix have arrived. The disappointing thing is that it has nothing to do with the triangular piece. I was told yesterday that they are replacing the molding on the front wind shield. I am very skeptical that this will do any good. As I have indicated before, I only have a minor swishing sound at higher speeds after doing the original "jmcraney fix". If this "Lexus fix" does not eliminate the slight swishing wind sound, I am going to go ahead and perform the latest "jmcraney fix" with the thin metal plate to see if I can get it to be "tomb-like quiet".

Default Another LS Wind Noise Buyback - #23

Here is another wind noise buyback.

This one is a 2007 LS460 VIN JTHBL46F575008089.

If you don't want to chase the link, here is part of what it said:

Quote:
Manufacturer buyback for wind noise and vibration at high speed. The vehicle carries the remainder of factory warranty. What is Manufacturer buyback? When the vehicle goes back to the dealership for the same problem more than twice. The manufacturer buys the vehicle back from the consumer and repairs the problem before reselling the vehicle. The advantage: you save thousands compared to the going price on a similar LS460 and you get the same manufacturer warranty and the problem is fixed. By law because it is a buyback the car will have a branded title.

Default Another LS Wind Noise Buyback - #24

Here is another wind noise buyback. This one is on eBay.

This one is a 2007 LS460L VIN JTHGL46F175009794.

If you don't want to chase the link, here is part of what it said:

Quote:
PLEASE READ: We are offering this beautiful car because it was recently repurchased by LEXUS of North America due to the following minor issue:
1. Wind Noise (LEXUS examined this issue, performed a Servcie Bulletin update and the car met spec. )

As the Highline Manufacturers often do, this was a "goodwill buyback" and an attempt to satisfy their customer. We have already paid for a full Pre Purchase Inspection AS WELL AS have Countyline LEXUS in Hollywood retest and confirm that the car is up to spec. We have driven and thoroughly teste this car and it drives like new with NO issues! LEXUS North Amerca has provided us with a disclosure of the original complaint for you to review and sign at the time of purchase. This process does NOT affect the factory warranty in any way and the car has the FULL balance of the LEXUS factory warranty for 4-years / 50,000 miles. The car also qualifies for many of the Extended Warranties that are available on the market.

FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE AND PEACE OF MIND, WE HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR AND COMPLETED A COMPLETE P.P.I. AT COUNTYLINE LEXUS IN HOLLYWOOD, FLA. THE CAR PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS, SO ASK US FOR THE DETAILS!!!

These cars represent the core of our business, and we feel they represent one the absolute best values in the highline car market today. Dealing exclusively with Mercedes-Benz, BMW and LEXUS Buybacks, we know the inner-workings of the program by working directly with key Manufacturer personnel and have a full understanding of their mindset regarding satisfying the customer "at all costs." It is this customer approach and true nature of the “issues” that makes these cars such a great offering to potential customers like yourself. The cars are rigorously tested, as it is the goal of LEXUS to have 100% satisfaction with the new owner. You will receive an Ohio title with a "Buyback Vehicle" notation. Other states might not recognize the Lemon Law/Buyback brand, so your State title may not have this notation. Please call your local BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) to confirm.

We thank you for reading this far and hope we have a chance to discuss this beautiful car with you further. We will be happy to arrange any type of additional inspection of your choosing. This is your chance to save 10's of THOUSANDS over new and thousands over other comparable used LS460L's on the market.

I did the “Fix” on the passenger side three times. No sheet metal (why not plastic?).

First result was increased wind noise - definitely. Not enough black silicone.

Second result was a marginal improvement over the first. I think I used enough silicone but I pressed the triangle very firmly in the middle which caused the silicone to spread thin.

The third time I used enough silicone, believe me. And I did not press the piece firmly at all. I just sort of placed it there and gently pressed the piece on its edges.

I believe the car is as quiet as it was originally. But this is so subjective I just don’t know. Did I improve it? Dunno. Maybe. I really need an audio meter. I decided to not do the Driver’s side.

My car is quiet, but it could be quieter.

Thanks Jeff for all your work on this! And thanks to all who shared their experience.

Jeff - any thoughts on the above poster's story? Is the lack of sheet metal the key issue with the fix not working?

amdave,

I have sent out sheet metal patches to three or four other owners recently. If you have some uncertainty about trying this on your car you should wait a couple of weeks to see if we hear from them.

BTW folks, I posted this on a different thread (New Lexus wind noise fix), but I thought I would repeat it here.

I went ahead and had Lexus do their latest wind noise fix. This involved the replacement of the windshield moldings and not much else. I was disappointed that it did not at all involve the triangular piece. I am not sure it has made any difference, but at least it did not make it any worse. My wind noise had been just a little bit of a swishing sound at high speeds ever since I performed Jeff's original fix many months ago now. So, it is not that big of a deal to me. But when the weather gets warm (I don't want to wait 24 hours for it to dry) here in the Midwest in the not too distant future, I am going to go ahead and do the new jmcraney fix with the thin sheet metal piece. I want to get my car to be "tomb-like quiet" lust like Jeff's.

I am truly amazed that Lexus has not yet come up with the conclusion that it is Jeff's fix that does the job and nothing else.

i just got my 2007 ls 460 back after a second attempt to remedy the wind noise.the first attempt was just replacing front side windows with lamisafe glass, which didnt solve the problem. after several months and numerous conversations with both lexus corporate and my dealership,i finally took it in for the repair authorized by lexus that consisted of windshield molding and door insulation.one week after leaving the car the service manager called and apologized for the delay saying they road tested it three times, tweaking it to perfection. my happiness was short lived however after taking a quick ride with the tech who did the work. the problem was still apparent. the techs opinion was the sound was different than it was originally, and he couldnt improve upon it. i again voiced my displeasure to the service manager who said she would contact lexus corporate to see what could be done.
