Hello. I ran some more tests today.
I bought a foam gasket and covered the entire upper edge of the glass with it. https://allegro.pl/oferta/uszczelka-...mm-12520151195
Air noise decreased by about 50-60% and when the window was slightly lowered, it decreased almost completely.

I noticed 1 thing when closing the window. At the end of closing, the glass is pushed against the outer seal. When the window is slightly lowered, the window presses the inner seal more tightly.

The foam gasket that I bought is 1mm thick and 2cm wide, which allowed the outside of the glass, but the upper rim was only enough for about 0.3mm on the inside. I plan to buy the same foam gasket, but this time 4 cm wide and 2 mm thick, and glue it so that it is also in contact with the gasket from the inside of the glass. I'll let you know in a few days how the tests went.

The noise comes mainly through the upper gasket, and in particular its beginning, which I marked in blue a few posts earlier.



I hope I am writing clearly enough. I use google translate.ps. I will add that the frequency of the noise has also become less irritating and less clear thanks to wrapping the glass edge with this foam gasket.

From what I saw it causes a huge amount of turbulence, and wouldn't be hard to recreate in a driveway setting. Resealing my trim pieces made a big difference in reducing wind noise, but it still happens. People have stated that replacing their door seals made no difference. I'm just saying, the big LS430 style mirrors appeared to act as a wind funnel between the mirror and door. So naturally this would interact with the poor trim seal. I would like to hear from people who have swapped out their mirrors to a sleeker shape (IS ES type) and if that has made a difference.

Does this fix provide any benefit to refresh models? Wind isn't usually an issue unless cruising at 80-85 mph for hours, but I am on a mission to Rolls-Royceify my L model.

The LS460s, LS460Ls and LS600HLs are some of the quietest mass-produced cars ever. Some of the early ones, '07 - '12 had a defect that caused the cars to not isolate the cabin well from outside sounds. Somehow this got tagged as a "wind noise" problem and that term stuck. The problem was more like you would experience with the front door windows partially open. Even when you are sitting still, sounds outside, when heard inside the car, with the windows closed, would not be attenuated as much as they should be. This turned out to be related to the trim on the front doors.

Repairing this problem is inexpensive, and a DIY project for many people. Lexus never offered a fix.

It's funny to me that some people will buy an approx 25k car that's around 15 yrs old then complain about road and wind noise. Maybe it's because my other vehicle is a F350 with Magnaflow mufflers but when I drive my 460 I just relax and enjoy it.

I don't care, I said it's funny to me.

I drove a 1996 ls400 for 20 yrs...did the repairs and maintenance that it needed but never tried to return it to like new condition, when it got too old I sold it and got another one.
Cars to me aren't a status symbol they are transportation, I just happen to like Toyota products.

Well I agree about not caring for cars as a status symbol. I drive 85-90 mph for hours at a time on rough roads, and have bad ears. Any little improvement is meaningful.

FWIW I've driven everything around the $100k mark aside for the G90 and latest Range Rover.

This era LS is still in the general ballpark of the best of them in terms of quietness. I'm hoping to go back to EV in a couple years.
