Default Leasing (LS 460)

Hi,
Just wanted to know if I can afford a LS460. I've owned LS400 and it's been troble free from the day I bought it (1996 LS400, original owner). What is an average payment on a lease? and what Money Factor and residuals are you guys getting?
Thanks you,
Vermont

ls460 price range is way too wide now, you need to be more specific on what packages and what wheel base you looking for. but keep in mind residual is always on the low side which doesn't help lease

Just to give you a ballpark answer, you should be able to do a 36 mo./15,000 mile/yr. lease on a SWB with Nav, ML, door closers, parking assist, etc. (like mine) for roughly $1,200 a month, with zero down, assuming you have good credit.

Note I said "roughly" ... you might get a slightly better price - or a slightly higher price. And of course, that doesn't take into account any equity (positive or negative) you may have in your trade-in.

My car listed for about $72k, to give you a starting point.

Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the quick respond, I have no trade in (keeping my 96 LS400). Just need the basic SWB with NAV. Lower residual is OK, because I'm planning to purchase after. No cap reduction, since it's a lease.

If that's the case, why not just do a long term (5 year, 6 year or 7 year) loan (assuming those are still available since the credit crunch)? Leasing then buying is exactly the same thing.

You might also look into a "single pay" lease. I simply hate monthly car payments and I knew I'd be keeping my LS460 for at least 3 years, so it was a way for me to not have to throw down the full price at this time. My lease deal was a 3 year lease with 16,000 miles per year and I ended up putting down around $35K. This may not be for everyone, but worked for me.

I am not sure what the factory is offering now, but the interest rate on a lease is normaly much lower than for a regular car loan. When I did my lease last december the rate was 5.1% where a loan at the time whould have been at least 7%.

not necessarily. my last 3 cars, if i leased them for 3 yrs and then buyout at the end of the lease, the overall payments were much better than if i financed the car. less monthly payment and less overall "interest"

it all depends on the deals and how you work the numbers

My accountant told me to lease instead of buy, that way she can do a write off on my wife office. Also, with buy I have to put out a big down payment.

Default don't forget the 9 security deposits

Lexus allows customers to put down 9 security deposits to reduce the money factor. Each deposit reduce 0.00008 from the money factor. With 9 deposits, you roughly reduce the money factor by 0.00072 or equivalent interest rate of 1.7%.. for a car like LS, we are talking about $80-90 (including sales tax in state like California where sales tax on a lease is determine by the monthly payment) a month less payment.. The security deposit is determined by the lease payment before any security deposit and round up to the next $50 increment.. So for LS, 9 deposit mean about 8-10K or so (but you get them all back if you car get total and you just hand Lexus the insurance check or after you finish the lease).. The saving of the lease payment is about 8-10% a year based on the 9 deposit you pay (which is a pretty good return). I did that for an 02 SC 430 and 02 LS430.. And I am doing it now with an Infiniti G35 and probably will do it with LS460 if we choose to lease one to replace our CLK 55 convertible when the lease is up in June..
