This particular LS was really quiet...Don't know about the wind noise as a whole being fixed.
I have test driven six total LS 460's; only one or two I would have considered a problem.

Get an 04'-06'. Judging by looks, they look best imo.

Just make sure you test you LS 460 for wind noise in a cross wind at at least 70mph before you sign the papers. Then you'll know for sure.

Many report they don't notice the wind noise until they get a thousand miles or so on the car...then it becomes more unpleasant. It doesn't always show up on the "test drive." In fact, I don't recall anyone complaining about it on their test drive prior to buying.

Ok, don't test drive it. Just sign the papers, give them $80k and hope for the best.

Good Luck.

I had to make a similar choice a little while back. I actually found the front seats of the 430 to be slightly more comfortable. Decided to save the $10,000 and go with the LS430.

There is not a big enough change in 04'-06' LS to get rid of the 02' LS that I own. I will just wait till the right 460 comes along.

I liked the seats in my LS 430 better than the 460. I didn't have the luxury of a test drive when I purchased my 460. I received one of the first cars. I had the wind noise repaired. I noticed the wind noise on my ride home. I thought the drivers side window wasn't sealing tight. I would rather have the 460 over the 430. The 460 has a lot more power and looks a lot better. The fuel mileage is about the same on the 460 compared the the 430. The ML stereo is also much better on the 460.

Good luck,

Craig

I think the 460 seats are miles ahead of the 430's. Rich, Corinthian, leather...

I had an '03 430 and now an '07 460 and I agree...the seats in the 460 are better. I don't get the comments about the older car having the better seats. Although the 430 did have great seats...just not AS great.

430 and 460 are very different cars, 430 is designed to be a very quite luxury sedan and 460 is designed to be a very fast sport sedan (not as quite). The 8-speed is faster but noiser and the 460 has louder exhaust noise. 460 is a different approach and a departure than the 430. I think Lexus is going to lose older buyers who perfer a quite and comfortable car but gain younger buyers who want a faster sports sedan.

430 does not play MP3, nor does it play DVD.

When climbing a steep hill, the 8 speed is noiser as it up and down shifts more often vs the 6 speed where you can ride a gear for longer range. But the 460 is faster and the dash has a newer more futuristic look.

I am hoping Lexus will bring back the 430 lineage but not sure if they would? I don't like the performance sedan, noiser ride.

I loved my LS430. I truly dislike my LS460. Mostly wind noise and perceptible cutting of corners in manufacturing and corporate customer service - Have 10 months left on the lease and goodbye. Will give Audi 8, BMW 7 or MB S550 a try for next one. Not sure except I am done with Lexus which I have leased since 1992.

Sorry about your 460 experience. Mine is 20 months old and it's the best car I've ever had (and that includes 7 Mercedes, 3 Audis, Volvo, Cadillac, Lincoln, and 4 other Lexi). Trust me, you will be back. Mercedes and Audi will have you visiting the shop every other day. I've never had a Bimmer but my friend with an X5 has had numerous problems. Maybe you just got a lemon (rare with Lexi) and have a bad dealer. But your solution (Audi, Mercedes BMW) is worse than the problem.
