I'm halfway round the world right now, and driving a Mercedes S320 cdi, which is a basic competition to my LS600hL.

It is very pleasant to drive and has many of the attributes of the LS600, but in a non-instinctive way. One example is the iDrive lookalike for COMAND which caused a bit of head scratching at first. But no big problem there.

The ride seems to be better at slow speeds on the Merc. It has a way of soaking up the potholes that the LS600 doesn't. I've posted here before on my dissatisfaction with the LS600 ride problems with bumps and potholes, and it's not my imagination now that I can make the comparison.

I would hate to have my Lexus experience spoiled by the rough road ride, but it has become very important to me now.

When I get back I must trial the 18 in wheels. There's got to be an improvement.

On the bright side, the LS600 is much quieter on the highway and handles better on corners too. The Merc wallows round most bends - the result of a compliant ride I guess.
