I can say a few bad things about LS460, but I'd give it credit where it's due. The silence in this car is deafening. I even feel some discomfort not hearing things I'm used to hearing in other cars - road noise, difference in the wheel pitch on different kinds of pavement, people trying to talk to me. I once had a friend run after the car screaming and I couldn't hear him until he started banging on the roof. Same goes for engine noise - it's just not there. Makes listening to music much more enjoyable.

The LS is nothing like the GS.

The level of silence in this car is astounding.

LS460L > 7 Series....

all they have to offer is "zero maintenance"

when it comes to comfort, quality, and technology........... besides, I don't think the 09 7 series can park it self.. LOL , there still behind in that department.

I love our 06 BMW 750Li. I think it's as quiet as the LS on highway. However, I would never get a first model year BMW. It will be a reliability nightmare.

We like our 750 for its sportiness and overall design. It has more presence on the road then the LS. But it's definitely not as user-friendly and detail-oriented as the LS.

I agree. Also, IMO, BMW luxury does not compare to Lexus Luxury. Nor does their service IMO. I also think the 2 cars are really not apples vs apples. BMW will give you more of a feel of the road. it may even be tad more fun to drive. But Luxury and overall quality will be different.

Perhaps you may get a quieter engine, I dont know, but there will be compromises I assure you. I would try and expplore your issue a little further, that is, if you havent exhausted all efforts until now

I tell all my clients this...

BMW and Lexus are two very different cars. If you want a quiet, smooth ride, with a total luxury feel, the slip into the car and it fits like a glove, to lower your blood pressure on the drive home, then buy a Lexus.

BMW's are built for the Autobahn. They ride and drive like a true sports sedan. A BMW will out-handle and out-drive a Lexus every time. But it's nowhere near as quiet or smooth or luxurious.

It all depends on what you are looking for.

one more thing about comparing the two cars is that IMHO if you're trying to keep either car as a keeper, the Lexus ages much better because it is not really stylish to begin with and people don't notice the design. I see first gen LS400's on the road and they just look like an ordinary old car but Lexus had kept the lines throughout all their gen's. Just look at the grills and the headlights they look pretty much the same just updated.

On the Benz's of late 80's it looks nothing like the new benz hence they don't age well, because they look so old. As a driver of a new model lexus I won't mind driving the old one if needed. Someone driving an old Benz or BMW feel like they're driving in nostolgia. You look at the late 80's BMW or even early 90's models they look nothing like the new BMW's.

This wouldn't matter though if you plan on getting rid of the car after each generation as it wouldn't be of concern to you.

We are talking about the 2009 7-series which can't be what consumer reports is referring to LOL

The 2008 7-series had 7 years for them to finally get many of their bugs fixed to have decent reliability to be recommended ...

Consumer reports started recommending the 7 series in 2006. Never buy a BMW in its first model year.

I think it was BMW 7-series where we had a lot of people trade in for an LS because the locks kept malfunctioning and they would have to have the car towed in to the dealership.

Not any special new technology, mind you...locks.

BMW 7 series is nice, but I do not like the new model coming out. Somehow the body style makes BMW appears less classy and looks cheaper than the current 7 Series. Keep in mind though that there are a LOT of negative feedbacks regarding their I-drive system. I'm not sure how the new system is gonna be like. Also keep in mind that BMW is high maintenance. Therefore I opt for the LS600hl instead haha
