I cant really talk to much about this kinda stuff, cause when our DS went to his meeting he has the hand right all this stuff, cause alot of it might become TSIBs and if lexus puts it out then its a legal document. but this was one of the many things.

Lexus is just finding out this kinda stuff. for reg stuff like using differernt oil, i dont mind telling other people to do that. but there are somethings i just cant talk about to the public customer.

plus synthetic acutally does give you a little better gas mileage on long drives. less friction on the eng.

Toyota does have their own 0W 20... It's made for them by Mobil 1. You can find
OW20 Mobil 1 at Walmart for about $6 per quart... I wouldn't trust my car to any of those quickie lube places...

That's what the local Toyota dealer told me. They said it's Mobil 1 with a Toyota label. No big deal either way. I let the Lexus dealer change mine. I might take it to Toyota next time. The Lexus dealer is 120 miles away.

The one thing I dont get is that with synthetic oil you can typically go 12-15K miles (Unless you have a turbo car but only becaue of Turbo longevity) s). So why does Lexus requite you to change oil evry 5K miles???

BTW, I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic for the past 10 years. IMO its is one of the finest oils out there

Why the 0-20 BTW? Whats wrong with 15-30 oil? I know there are many cars that use the thicker 50 wt oil but I've never heard of car needing to use 0-20 oil

boxcarfan,

In normal driving conditions (not dusty roads or "hard" driving), will the 0w20 oil last 7,500 miles (as is says in the manual)?

Last time I changed my Penzoil Platinum 0w20 full synthetic oil was at 15k. It was 5k miles old and looked almost like new.

we are still changing oil and rotating tires at every 5,000 miles for now, but im sure it would be ok to drive that far on syn.

you also need to keep in mind how long, time wise, it has be in your engine. not how many miles you drive. and you still need to rotate your tires.

He may be right. . On mobile 1's site they list their 0W20 Fully synthetic oil as their Advanced Fuel Economy product. They show no other 0W20 Synthetic Product on that site

very good point. My other car often sits a couple of weeks sometimes without driving it. I make it a habit to change the oil every 6 months

Are you now saying that it's OK to go 7500 miles if you use the synthetic?
