Default Keeping LS460 Wheels Clean

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this Lexus forum. I was a member of another Lex forum when I had my previous LS430 and GS300 but I dont remember which one and this one seems new to me.

Anyway, I have had my LS460 now for about 5 months. I Love this car. I did when I first test drove it mainly because it gave me back some of the handling of my GS which disappeared as soon as I went to the LS430.

I also have the exec package as well and I'm very pleased with those bills and whistles

The car is so much different than my previous LS430.

One thing i noticed is that I am always cleaning my wheels and the 9 spoke wheels also take more time to clean. I'm looking for a way to reduce this clean time

I could get the Kleen Wheels Dust Covers which woud pretty much reduce all brake dust but I'm not sure how unsighly they would look. I know they look absolutely hideous on 4 or 5 spoke cars. But perhaps 9 spoke wheels would conceal their appearance.

I could also perhaps switch to Raybestos Ceramic Pads which give off so much less dust.

What methods have any of you guys tried to keep the wheels clean other than the conventional PITA Cleaning?

welcome to clublexus

try talk to dealership and see if they have less dusty pads. they have tsib for both the GS and the IS to replace original pads with less dusty ones. that's the best solution

i would never use those dust covers, they look silly imho

you can also look at some of those wheel wax. they help to reduce the dust on the wheels too. not dramatic but help.

Thanks for your input.

I have a popular product called Rejex. Its suppose to act like a coating so that the dust comes off very easily. I'm just wondering how it works and how often I will need to apply it. Again, 9 spokes on each wheel is a little work

I had the 460 with 9-spoke wheels, but did not find the dust to be a problem, at least not as much as Euro cars with metalized pads. I washed the car once a week or so, and yes the 9 spokes are a bit of a pain - especially if you like reaching in and wiping the inside of the rim. If it becomes an issue for you, you might want to consider going to 7 or 5-spoke 19" wheels, like I now have on the 600. Sewell Lexus is selling 4 port take-off rims for $1200, a good deal imho.

Not Sure If I want to get into New Wheel Expense right now. But now that you mention it, I do have thoughts on the horizon of getting OEM Chrome wheels or if I want to stay away form 9 spoke wheels, get some other chrome wheels.

Problem is in my experience, Chrome can be a hit or miss sometimes. Typically the Chroming process eventually peels. Its just a matter of when. Thats why most resellers only guarantee 1-2 years on the chrome. However, if there is a very reputable company which has been in Biz for several years atleast and has a "no bs" warranty on the chrome for 4 years or longer, I might consider it

Welcome to Club Lexus Mark! I have been using P21S for years and find that the wheels stay much cleaner longer and don't accumulate dust very much. I order it through Autosupermart.com. Good luck!

My 2008 LS460 has the black brake dust problem. The pads are obviously semi-metalic. If and when available I would suggest and go with an Akebono Pro Act ceramic pad. They have vurtually no dust, are easy on the rotors, and bet they would get rid of the grabby LS460 brake feel of this brake system.

a lot of the "grabby" feel of the brakes on the ls460 is due to the ECB (electronically controlled brake), which is basically brake by wire and thus the sensitivity. that's one thing i miss

Default rejex

i use the rejex regularly on my wheels and it works well but the brake dust doesn't just spray off like they claim. i really like it to prevent the brake dust from "burning" into the clearcoat on the wheels.

"bills and whistles" -- hey, that's pretty funny.

But seriously folks, try waxing the wheels. It will make cleaning them much easier.

I agree about waxing the wheels. Use something like Liquid Glass, something that will last for many washes.
