Default How much is servicing where you live?

I made my first apt. for tomorrow and was kind of surprised how much the servicing was. $210+ for the 10,000 mile servicing! That's one thing I liked about my Benz. You only went in every 7,500 and it was free for the first three years!

I've taken mine in for 15,000 mile service and I'm looking at $360. Not quite sure what they do other than change the oil and inspect things. I hear you on the Benz comment, my BMW 7 series I could go about 10,000 miles before the computer said I needed an oil change.

I'm bringing mine in for the 10,000 mile service, but I'm not getting the 10,000 mile service. I'm only getting the oil and filter change. Except for the the oil and filter change, I can can easily do the rest. I don't rotate my tires every 5000 miles. That's a bit too fast, plus Lexus doesn't balance the tires as part of the rotation, and that can be a costly mistake.

I only do a la carte services. In other words, I change the oil, filter and rotation every 5000 miles. And will soon go to 7500. I'll read the book and look for air filter schedule etc etc and do stuff as needed. My experience is that much of the dealer stuff is hype.

I absolutely agree with you Daryll. And its not only Lexus, its all the car manufacturers (at least all that I have seen). So much of what the specified service entails is "check" this and "inspect" that, and of course the famous "test drive". Gimme a break, anybody can do that in a few minutes. For the most part the only meaningful thing they do is change the oil and filter.

I think they replaced the air filter. Is this the AC air filter? Next time I'll be sure to look at what they do before dropping off the car. They said they do everything that Lexus recommends, but I'm sure Lexus requires them to do a lot that isn't needed just to make money.

I always am careful to get oil and filter changes a la carte and usually NOT at the dealer. I review the manuals for my car and get major stuff done as required but am careful not to overdo it. And at trade in time or outright sales I have all receipts and get the same crappy resale value as if I had done all the dealer hype and would still get a crappy resale value.

Actually, I take that back. My wife couldn't even open the hood if you told her there was a free pair of Manolo Blahniks under there.

I suppose for some owners it is good that they check those things, even if it is at an exorbitant price.

I just had my oil & filter changed today at Watertown (MA) Lexus. The total was $121 less a 10% coupon I had from their web site, so $109. It broke down by $18 labor, $10 filter, $2 gasket and $81 full synthetic oil. I asked what the 10,000 mile service cost and it was $167. He said the 30,000 service was about $650 (I haven't looked up what that entails, but my guess is I could do most of it myself in about 10 minutes).
