7.1 update cost $265?

10-seconds or less
For what it's worth, I was at the Lexus dealer yesterday and they confirmed 8.1 is available, cost $265.00 and must be ordered against your VIN (I suppose an anti piracy tactic). Parts dude says it takes about 10 tens to arrive. The service writer indicated the dealer should install it because "...you have to take the trunk apart to get to the unit". He didn't offer to say how much they charge for this service.
I got my card today, telling me to contact my Stealership to get my Version 8.1 Map upgrade. I hadn't planned to even bother to upgrade. However, since the posts above say that the stupid "I Agree" screen isn't present in v8.1, I will probably do it. If not for that, I would have just spent the $265 (plus tax) on a Garmin.

I have a 2007 RX 350 and decided to check to see how long it takes to "take the trunk apart to get to the unit." After rolling back the carpet in the cargo area to access the spare tire, it took me 4 seconds (four) to open the panel to access the CD. That was without using any tools. It just amazes me what the Stealerships do to their customers.

at the same time, the dealership said accessing the trunk, i think that's BS. i believe the usb connection is in the cabin?
and yes, 8.1 gets rid of the i agree. actually i thought even 7.1 got rid of it already

I just got the card in the mail today. The price is $265, but labor is not included.
I'll give them a call and see how much time they assess for labor. I can't imagine it would take more than 15 minutes to download the updates (unless they're using 1.0 USB cables).

I called my dealer today and they charge $59 for labor. The service manager said it takes about 45 minutes to do it. So total cost is $324.

My 7.1 upgrade also got rid of the I Agree screen but I can't see spending the $$ for 8.1 just to pick up a few new gas stations or what ever.
Maybe in another 2 or 3 years I'll upgrade.

My dealer quoted $50 for labor in addition to the $265 for the kit. He discouraged me from doing it - wait to next January and the 9.1 will probably be out. He asked if I were having any problems with addresses on what I have now.

....only reason i updated to 8.1 was that it has my address (very new)...
