Red face Looking to buy a LS460/L. Need assistance

Hi all, I am looking to buy a LS460 (wife leaning towards SWB but I like LWB) or the LX570 (right they are 2 very different vehicles but we happen to like both). ALso I am assuming price for 2008 will be heavily discounted than the 2009s, but any of you know by how much of a difference? We don't mind getting 2008s but if the difference isn't that much, we'll go for the 2009s.

I am wonder what price we should be offering (exclude tax / license etc..)

According to Lexus.com site for 2009 models,

LS460 w/ Comfort Pkg, Navigation System/Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound Audio System /Advanced Parking Guidance System Package ----> $72,030.00

LS460L w/ Luxury Package, Mark Levinson® Audio System Package, Touring Package -----> $81,380.00

LS460 AWD w/ Navigation System/Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound Audio System Package -----> $73,670.00

I heard there are some incentives provided by Lexus to the dealers so hopefully that can be added to the discount for the vehicle.

I am located in the bay area but I'm willing to go as far as Los Angeles to make the purchase if the price difference is over 500.

I'm going to post similiar question in the LX 570 forum. The MSRP on this LX570 comes out to be around 8$4,000.00 + change. If any of you happen to know how much would be a fair offer for this, please also respond to this post.

Appreciate the help guys!

the 2009 is the same car. except if you get the ls460l (with rear seat upgrade or exec package), the trunk on the 09 is quite a bit larger than 08

The dealers were getting a $4000 marketing incentive from Lexus on the 2008 LS models starting sometime in September or early October. Do not know if this is still in effect or not. Sales of LS models were off 52% in November 2008 vs November 2007. If this is still in effect and if you can find a 2008 in the color you want and with the equipment you want, you probably can get it for almost $4000 below invoice, depending how desperate your dealer is.

Do not know if there is any marketing support on the 2009's.

I just picked up a ls460 from hendrix motors in pleasanton. we knew salesman pretty well and bought a couple ls's from them before. I think msrp was 69.5k. i ended up getting it for 55.8. right around 5k below invoice. pm me if you want the salesman name over there. for an 08 you definately get better incentives, but the draw back is not very much in choices of colors.

Z32 - do a quick search and you will find a thread about buying at invoice - there are several recent Bay Area data points on SWB's and LWB's etc... You are in CA so I rule out the AWS, - but if you must have the memory passenger seat then 09 is the way to go -- If not until all of the 08's are gone 09's will be IMO 2+K more. I found a few 09's scattered across the bay - Hendrix had 1 and one more coming - SWB and LWB.

I looked at the 570 and nearly purchased one until I drove a Platinum Sequoia - to me there was no real comparison since the best thing about the 570 was the motor IMO - and the Sequoia Platinum has it among other things.

Pick up a slightly used 07 or 08 LS460. You could save a lot of money on a low mileage high option LS, that still under a full warranty. I wouldn't bother with AWD in CA.

I got an 08 L460 from Lexus of Sac for about 15K+ below MSRP about 10 days ago. The dealer rebate was raised from 4k to 6K in Dec and I posted my deal in one of the "buying below invoice thread". My general obsevation is that if you are leasing, an 08 is a better deal than 09 if you can find your combo in equipment and color (08 selection is very limited with ML/NAV package. e.g. No white/ivory combo at all 400+ miles around the bay area). One can probably get 09 close to invoice where 08 around invoice-5k to 6k.. Residual is higher in 09 vs 08 (47% vs 40% for SWB 3yr/15k. So some of the lower cap cost was balanced out by lower residual) and the money factor is quite a bit lower for 08 (0.00190 vs 0.0024 (??)). So a monthly payment of 1100 (08) vs 1200-1250 (09). If you are buying it, the 08 probably come out about 1000-2000 ahead after you factor into the lower depreciation (but you loss the subsidised money factor in leasing for 08 vs 09)... I supposed the best way is to lease the 08 and buy the car at the end of the lease.. My car has an MSRP of 75K but after 3 yrs I can purchased it for 29.9K... I don't think I can find a better car for 29.9K in 3 years. So chance are we will buy it after the lease is up if nothing major go wrong..

Forget about buying a used 07 or 08. There is not a whole lot of used LS on the market (try Cars.com or autotrader.com). And those used LS on the market are more expensive than get a new one (with the 10k below MSRP for 09 or 15-16K below MSRP for 08).

Top Gun is 100% correct. I just got my 460l on dec 5th for 5k below invioce or 66,494.00 plus tax. If there are any 08's left asked for around 15-16k off of msrp.

Thx all for the help. I'll see what I could find... Looks like there's no difference b/w the 08 and 09 model and the 07 has the wind noise issue which won't bother me since I am not going w/ the 07 I guess. Will see. thx again

Wind Noise is not an 07 feature -- feel free to take a look at the entire site, search etc... Lots of great LS460 info here if you look.

There have been numerous reports of wind noise in all of the 07 and 08 LS models - 07 LS460, 07 LS40L, 08 LS460, 08 LS460L, 08 LS600HL - and very few reports of successful repairs by Lexus dealers. A few reports of Wind noise in the 09 LS models are showing up now.

I was at the dealership yesterday trying to pull the trigger on an 08 460L $5400 below invoice (81xxx MSRP). Price was agreed upon and during the visit w/ the finance manager, he tried to talk me into buying paint protection and other craps which I told him immediately that I will not require anything else and demanded that I had a meeting to go and had to make it quick.... I told him i'll not need financing or anything and that I'll be paying in full by check. He insisted that he needed my SSN to run my credit? I was a bit ticked off that a credit check is required even when I'm paying in full and not required any finance on this vehicle. Again it's been over 10 years since I last bought a new car but I don't recall I needed to provide my SSN for the dealer to run my credit (i also paid in full last time i bought my vehicle which was an MB E320 but that was in Massachusset). So is that a law in california that requires everyone to provide their SSN to run a credit check even if they are paying in full w/out any financing needed?
PS. I walked away w/out the deal.
thx
