Yea, this is urban Beijing. Judging from the mandarin character "京, jīng" on the license plate which means capital. Japanese cars are not very popular with the Chinese because of their relationship with Japan, during WWII.

hahaha, thats funny cuz i know chinese 'people' aren't very popular in japan for the same reason. i think its hilarious how so many asian countries really do hate each other deep down inside. on that note i asked a few japanese people how they felt about the hyundai genesis compared to some lex (toyota) models and they all laughed at the somewhat copying of the vehicles and claimed that lex (toyota) copied mercedes and other european manufactures first so its only fair.

There were 23 Lexus dealerships in China in 2007, and expansion plans called for 48 by end of 2008:

Interestingly, the pictures I've seen of Lexus China dealerships shows that they have used a similar architectural style as Lexus USA dealerships, in contrast to Lexus Europe, Lexus Japan, Lexus Australia, and other parts of Asia.

Japanese cars are not very popular among the elderly too here in Singapore. Some old people that I talked to have their minds set that Lexus is some normal brand like Toyota or Honda just because its Japanese!

People in china seem to love Volkswagen for some reason.

I'm sure they would love Merc's if they were the same price. Lots of VW production in China.

They actually like Audis a lot for some reason, especially the A6 Long wheelbase (for the China market only, Audi A6 is the best selling mid-sized luxury sedan in the world because China is it's largest market). I don't know what is it with the Chinese nationals and long wheelbase small and mid-size luxury sedans (Audi A4L, BMW 5-Series L, Volvo S80L).

Yep, saw a lot of them when I visited there, they actually have their own badges with Chinese words on them.
