Default Scheduled Maintance Log for the 08 LS 460...

I posted a thread the other day talking about how much was servicing in your area and what it costs. Lots of you guys stated that you didn't really need everything that was suggested. Paying 300+ every 5,000 miles isn’t my idea of fun.

So when I went by the dealership today I picked up the Scheduled Maintenance for the 08 LS 460. The guy was nice enough to print it out for me.

How much is the oil for the servicing?
How much is the filter?

This replace air conditioner filter seems like a massive upsell to me!

How can someone save money during this process? Possibly take it trusted mechanic?

I think it depends on the dealer as well - case in point is the 1K service/inspection. I read that others were taking their cars in for this (some getting inspection + a wrecked car in return) but when I made some calls to local dealers I was told 'not necessary'.... and given the multiple dealer crashed my car posts I was not in a hurry.

I just brought my 08 LS460 in for the 10K service. It is basically oil change, tire rotation, cabin air filter replacement, and a multitude of inspections (including road test). The estimate was $365 plus tax.

I opted for the oil change and tire rotation (considered discount tire for free, but I opted for lexus) for ~$150 (including tax). While I was waiting, I purchased the cabin air filter (parts dept ~$45) and installed it at home (< 5 mins).

I understand the oil is synthetic and requires more (for the V8), but the extra $200 for various inspection is high. They did not mark the 10K maintainane manual, so I marked and annotated it myself (remember to keep the receipts).

I always, however, get the service at the major milestones (30, 60, etc.).

I will say, that the service dept (Lexus Carlsbad) does do good work. We had a previous ES handled/bought there for many years.

Thanks,
jeff

Has anyone tried to change their own oil in the LS? I use to do this with my GS and it was simple.

Just had my oil and filter change at 15,000 miles. I called ahead and told them I wanted "an oil and oil filter change". Period.

When the service rep wrote it up, he asked if I wanted the other things, and I told him no, just the oil and filter. Told him I had pulled the covers and checked the engine air filters myself and they looked new. Tires had just been changed (thanks again, Lexus), so I didn't even need a rotation.

He told me the cabin air filter warning light would come before long and I could deal with that however I wanted ... I could do it or bring it in for them to do it.

Cost for the oil and filter change was 80-something dollars. A little pricey, perhaps, but they have a nice waiting room with free coffee and soft drinks and I get a receipt showing they did it.

If they used synthetic oil, then that's a good price indeed. Good for you...

I've just bought a floor jack, so I'll be doing the next one and many more after that... I'm an old cheapskate!

I just had my oil and filter changed for $160. I asked for full synthetic so this increased the cost quite a bit. They marked up the oil about $5/quart over what I can get at the auto parts store (Lexus charged approx $13 per quart), but the labor charge was only $20.

Usually, you can buy your own oil and filter, bring it to a dealer and have them change the oil for only a labor charge. I doubt it would only be $20, though.

Most service should be a lof and tire rot/bal. At every 15k mile point you will need new wiper inserts, air filters and cabin filter. That is the full service needs on a ls460. You can do a brake flush and BG products 44k every 30k as extras. Induction service will be needed at differant mileage points depending on the area you live in. If you are in traffic every night for 1+hrs you may want the fuel induction service every 30k. Brakes differ by driver alot and so do tires. Unless you drive like grandma don't expect long life. Ls460 is more performance than the 430 so expect more service needs on some items.
