Thank you, I just printed that out. How many oil filters does this thing use per 5k miles? I heard 2?

Consider me an idiot, I need the 100 level class.

Dunno why someone would suggest 2. I do my own oil changes, and it is indeed one every 5000.

of course oil changes at lexus are always done on time, but what would be the next most important thing to do and how often can it be stretched out?

tranny fluid, brake fluid, steering fluid etc

i know these cars can last forever with oil changes on time, but of course cant neglect the other fluids. if i were to skip all the recommended service schedule from dealer what should i make sure i do?

you do what yo have to. You drive an LS. $300 is not going to kill you. I think its funny how we drop 50-75k on a car then get upset about the service costs.

maybe a Toyota would be a better purchase in the future

All you said regarding the service for $300 was valid and I agree. Don't agree with the comment about a Toyota being a better purchase in the future for the fellow member though. Im not the moderator by far but, can we please help each other without making comments to upset other members. This is a site for advice and fellow fans/lovers of Lexus.

We have no reason to make others feel bad because they don't want to or are curious if theres a way to pay less for service. That said, I respect your opinion as to what he should do but, dont think it was appropriate to make such a statement that can be taking in an offensive way by the gentleman making a statement about servicing his auto. He didnt ask if he should buy a Toyota he asked for advice on servicing his car.

We must stop using the internet to offend each other dear sir, and on sites like this use it for what its meant for. We can all disagree but, gentleman/woman disagree with respect and don't attempt to cleverly put others down in the process. That said, if I have offended anyone at anytime during this post I'm sorry. Just dont like alot of the arguments I see us fellow members get into because someone makes a smart comment!!!

We all have the right to speak and say what we please but, should speak to others the way would would want to be spoke to as well. This could be a place were we get away from stress not create it! I love the universe, L.G.N.M

First I'd suggest when time permits if the answer you need to put you in a comfort zone isn't given here you should go to the local dealer and inquire about this! Hopefully a person with great wisdom on this issue can help you if they read your question. I myself go get the service done every 5,000 miles.

I do this for piece of mind but, I'm guessing its not a sure thing that problems still won't arise. I say you should at least do a dealer service maybe every 10,000 miles and in between every 5,000 miles just get the oil changed and tires rotated. Maybe this will help you keep the service budget down fellow member.

I feel you, these times make it more important to watch your money no matter wealthy, rich, middle class(if this exist anymore),poor. I do what I do because it makes me drive at ease and sleep well at night. You should do what makes you feel the same as I. Be sure to contact the dealership for professional advice or contact a member on this site with servicing experience better qualified than I am. All the best and I'm confident someone with great advice will help you fellow member!!

If you at least do the oil changes and rotate the tires that should be fine for a while but, at least do servicing every 10,000 miles in my opinion(every 15,000 miles is an important period for cars as well)! L.G.N.M

Such a silly statement. One of the richest guys I know, drives an LS and won't take his car to the dealership as he feels he is being ripped off. (normal servicing)

The reason I am able to afford an LS is bc. I try to save money whenever I can. I guess it's like a game for me and I enjoy winning.

Some of us got to where we are, and now have what we have because we are disciplined and frugal. Just because we buy an LS in our later years, doesn't mean that same discipline and frugality go away. That is what we are, and that is what we will continue to be. Old habits die hard. I had $0 to my name when I reached the age of 21; that is no longer the case. So, let us save pennies if we want to. Leave the judgments to the judges.

mr29rose, I am of the school of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". When my cars and motorcycles are under warranty, I follow the manufacturer requirements so I don't void my warranty. Once the warranty expires, I use common sense. Let me explain.

I have a 1995 Infiniti Q45a. It has 167,977 miles on it right now. Once the warranty ended after 4 years, I threw the manufacturer's service schedule in the trash. I change my oil and filter religiously every 10,000 miles. Actually just last week I did have it changed at 8,000 miles because I had my mechanic doing an alignment so I figured I would save myself a trip. The engine had used maybe a half quart in 8000 miles.

I have never had either the power steering or the transmission fluids changed. Both fluids are clean, at normal levels, and function like new. Now someone might say that their molecular characteristics have changed with time and use and contamination. Yea, maybe, but I don't see any evidence of it. Also, I've experienced, and heard of, folks who started to have problems with their transmission right after they had the fluid changed.

I do believe in preventative maintenance. I check my belts and hoses and at any sign of significant wear I will have them changed. However, I don't change my coolant unless it needs it, not when the manufacturer would like me to bring the car in to do it. You can buy an INexpensive tester in any autmotive store that will tell you the effectiveness of your coolant.

The same things apply to my motorcycle. Harley specs the fork oil to be changed at 10,000 miles. I have 27,000 on my Deuce. I haven't changed the fork oil and I have no intention to without some reason beyond enriching my dealer. Its a sealed system, no leakage has occurred, the forks compress just as they always have, why would I fool (a different word comes to me but this is a family forum) with it?

I know some won't agree with this approach, and that's fine. I would concede that if you don't know a lot about cars, you are probably better off in the long run just doing what the manufacturer, or dealer, tells you, but I guarantee it will be much, much more expensive. I've always told my wife that if I die before her, it will cost her 10 times more to live without me!

I agree. Saving money is a game with me.The prize is being able to afford a Lexus.
