Default Pre-Collision System in action

I am not sure if this has been asked before, so I will do so now. Has anyone here driving a Lexus with the pre-collision option had this system actually be implemented on the highway due to an imminent collision? I am just curious if it actually works like it is suppose to.

I'm not sure if it was the pre-collision kicking in, but I think I did, sort of....

A car pulled out in front of me and I slammed on the brakes.

I ended up just a few inches from the car.

The seat belts instantly tightened to a virtual choke-hold and the brakes seemed to brake even harder (I might have imagined this). I was very impressed....

It took about 15 seconds before the car decided that the emergency was past and the seat belts loosed up...

Thank you! That is very interesting. From your description, it sure does sound like the pre-collision system was activated. It is nice to know that it works like it is suppose to, but as Andrew stated, I hope none of us get to experience it.

I've experienced the Pre-Collision System working in conjunction with the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. I had the CC set on the highway and someone suddenly decided they needed to exit and cut in front of me while also braking. The system immediately applied the brakes before I could even get my foot to the brake. There was an audible alarm as well as a visual alarm. I'm sure the seat belts tightened, but I was preoccupied!

Personally, I would never buy a car without this system. The whole package, the pre-collision and the radar cruise control is just phenomenal.

I agree. My current list of "Musts" for any of my future vehicles is:

1. Nav system, preferably, touchscreen.
2. Radar/active cruise control.
3. AWD (This IS Maine).

My preferred list is somewhat peculiar, and includes:

Manual transmission.
Cloth seats.
Non-automatic climate control system.

Agreed, hope no one here has to use it to its full potential...the PCS is supposed to increase braking power so the observed effect probably was the system in action.

it is very cool. However, im confused about the pre collision system on certain lexus vehicles. On the LS600H it is "supposed" to brake itself so that the impact is not as severe. On the lower systems like those found on the IS, ES and RX, all it does is tighten the seatbelt and give you a warning and "primes" brake assist (which just applies more brakes when you push it), but it doesnt actually brake for you which is what i prefer to have

I guess that's the difference between the Pre-Collision System and Advanced Pre-Collision System.
