Uh, they are certainly not the same. That's why they have different octanes? Unless you mean the same rating from various brands are similar

Its more the same than it is different. Fuel comes from a handful of providers and is trucked to stations of a myriad of different brands from the same distribution point.

here is the gasoline thread starting again...

here are the best top tier gasolines
Shell premium #1 and if you can justify the 20 cents a gallon with savings in gas mileage, its the best for performance and gas mileage
Chevron Texaco for its cleaning ability with techron
Costco top tier Premium, best value for the $

dont worry about 91 octane its fine,
second choices bp/exxon mobil/ if you can not get others gasolines

and yes Shell will give you the best performance, after using costco for a month, I used a tank of shell premium again in my LS and the kick downs had more pull..
for turbo cars, like my wife's bmw shell premium gives me 1 mpg more a gallon due to less throttle inputs with performance..

all gas comes form the refinery the same , the additive packages differ and shells is class leading ahead of rest

I have never noticed any difference between Shell and any other quality fuel in any of my LS cars or my current S Class.

What pray tell makes Shell the best, besides marketing?

Warm and fuzzies. It’s also consistently good in my experience. Around here I have the choice of Speedway, grocery store gas, Marathon, Citgo, BP or Phillips 66. You bet I go out of my way to find Shell. If there was an Exxon, Chevron or Mobil station closer by I’d go to either of them since I think they’re on the same elite tier as Shell. Even though some on my first list are Top Tier certified, I’m just not convinced. The warm and fuzzies are stronger on the second list.

I didn't state that properly. I should have said all retailers get the same gasoline regardless of octane. The difference in brands are the additives that are added once the gas arrives at that retailers depot/storage facility

I would say BP is on the same level.

Its not that I wouldn’t, there just isn’t anywhere to get it here.

No gas station anywhere near me sells non-ethanol gas. I'd have to go to a race track to get it.

I do get it by the can for my snowblower, but that would a tad expensive to fill my car!
