Today a small rock hit my windshield, resulting in a small spider crack.

Anything I can do about this short of replacing the entire windshield, which seems extreme?

Would this get covered in Lexus warranty since the car is only 9 months. I know my auto insurance (Geico) covers some kind of windshield replacement, but I am not sure how bad is needs to be.

lexus won't cover it, this is tear and wear

you can get a windshield shop to repair it, they can use some kind of glue to avoid it from glowing. it won't make it invisible, but won't make it spread out. you can do this if the crack is within size of a quarter or so. larger than that, then you need replacement

Sorry to here about your windshield but there is no warranty repair for a chipped windshield. I've broken windshields the first day and had others last for 10 years. Just involves luck I believe.

I've never been happy with the windshield repairs and now refuse them. With a car as new as yours just be sure you are offered a Lexus windshield rather than an aftermarket glass which often are inferior.

put it this way, once you hear the price of oem windshield you will get a heart attack. something like 1400 bucks

The dealer will just call the glass installer and have him come and replace the windshield. Your insurance agent can probably recommend a good installer that will come to you instead - just be sure he picks up the Lexus glass first. The glass is expensive but the insurance companies are able to get a real substantial discount. I've never had my insurance company balk at paying for the Lexus glass - I think they may have a three year rule or something to that effect before they start talking about aftermarket glass in a Lexus.

Try to avoid replacing it as much as possible. If it can be repaired repair it. Replacing should be your last resort.

i hear in some states your comprehensive insurance is applicable to this area....i've even heard no deductible as well....hope this helps....

If the spider is within limits of repair, do it and see how you like it. If it's not right in your driver's line of sight while driving, you probably won't notice it. I have had about six of these kind of rock chips in the glass and they have worked for me. The insurance company pays for it at no cost to you in most cases.

If it's a star smaller than a quarter, you'd be better off letting an auto glass shop suck it in. You will only see a small dot. Better than replacing the whole windshield
