I've had to replace 2 tires (plus one repair due to an embedded screw) so far because they got damaged, once by a pot-hole and once by backing into a curb.
I've only had this issue since I've had a car with low profile tires. With their fragile sidewalls, they're are notorious for being damage prone.
Is it possible to fit normal tires and rims on this car?
If not, then when my lease is up in 10 months, I expect I'll have to let the car go and replace it with with a car with normal rims and tires.

Why don't you just get road hazard coverage on the tires? Most places sell it for $20 bucks a tire. I have it on my 22" tires and the road hazard coverage I have is up to a $399 tire.

Thanks for your reply.
I now have road hazard on my tires, but:
1. It's pro-rated, so you only get partial coverage.
2. I wonder if they'll claim that curb damage is negligent and decline any claim.
3. There's still the inconvenience of it all.
In 45 years of driving, I've never had any tire damage until now.

I've been getting tires for my whole family for 15 years at Discount Tire. The coverage is always "Full Replacement For Free."
My son hit "something in the road" (the correct name for a "curb" under replacement warranty) which destroyed both tires on the same side of the car. Both tires, with 25k miles on each, were replaced for free with brand new $200 tires.
My wife and four teenagers have used this coverage for multiple replacements. The only cost is $25, or so, to renew the coverage on the tire that gets replaced.
When shopping for Tire Purchase and Warranty, it was worth it for me to do my homework.

Helmar, our LS460's don't really have very low-profile tires ... look at the ones on an IS350 if you want low-profile ... they ride maybe an inch above the pavement at most!
But you're right that modern tires are prone to damage from potholes, curbs and road debris. It's just the price we pay. If you try to mount tires with taller sidewalls it will adversely affect your speedometer and odometer readouts and probably your handling and braking as well.
Just need to be careful and use that road hazard thing if necessary.

"profile" is the distance from the outer edge of the tire to the inner edge of the tire.
A "low profile" tire has a smaller distance (less rubber on the sidewall of the tire) from the road to the metal wheel the tire is mounted on than a "standard" or "high profile" tire.
The lower the "profile" the closer the metal wheel is to the ground and the better the handling.
The higher the "profile" the softer the ride is at the expensise of handling.
Sports cars usually have "low profile" tires. Great performance; don't last very long.
SUV's usually have "higher profile" tires. Softer ride; usually lasts longer.
