Default Got my LS460 today...have some questions...

So I finally got my LS460 delivered to me today. Now that I have driven it more than just the good ol' test drive I have some questions for current owners who can shed some light.

1st Observation....Engine noise....should I really hear the engine as much as I am from the cabin? My 2000 GS400 is quieter than this thing.

2nd...Are there any known issues with AFS? It looks like when I turn the headlights on and I make a turn I can see the headlight move to the left and then after that it disables itself and tells me to go to the dealership.

3rd....I noticed a smell coming from the engine in the cabin. I'm hoping this is because the car has been sitting around for a month and hasnt really been driven much. This did seem to subside though after driving around for a while.

It does seem to drive nice. Definitely different than my GS400 but its like a boat gliding through the water..lol.

I will be taking it in for service next week to have the wind noise issue resolved as I noticed this the minute I test drove it.

If any of you can shed some light on some of the questions I have that would be great and if there is anything else I should look out for please let me know. I have about 23,000 miles left on my warranty and would like to get all my issues addressed.

Thanks again!

Tony

1) in one hand that's coz' the car is so quiet about everything else. i know what you mean by the engine noise. i had gs400, and then sc430, and ls460l. with the new lexus they want to make it a bit more sporty by introducing a bit more engine sound. but once it's cruising the engine noise is at minimal

2) no common known issues on afs. in your case, seems like dealer visit time

3) i think they do have a tsib about the smell, check with dealerships too

your driving feel is pretty much why i got rid of mine. it's a very nice car and comfortable, but it's just too disconnected from the road, indeed like driving a boat

good luck and congrats on the new car

Congrats on your LS 460, yes it's a different car than the GS, less sporty and more smooth, but it's the flagship and deservedly so. Perhaps the dealer can also take a look at the AFS light; as mentioned a TSIB exists for the sulfur smell issue. The 4LS was designed reportedly with added engine noise at certain points in the cabin, supposedly for a more engaging drive.

i had a GS350 and that engine is noisey. The direct injection is unbelievably loud when started. Had a and it was loud when cold too. My LS is very quiet compared to that and I agree that the car is so quiet that any other noise is obvious. they do have less feedback than the others but I consider it a plus. Had to many firm riding cars. GS is somewhat firmer ride

Not sure how much engine noise you're hearing or expecting ..I'm coming from an E46 M3, which was all noise, all the time... the LS460, for me, produces a nice deep V8 growl when accelerating, which was a pleasant surprise to me .. and there seems to be a nice deep hum just to let one know it's there .. subtle ...

Well hearing the car accelerate is not an issue but I hear more of a clicking or ticking sound.

actually the ls460 also has direct injection and at times you will hear the the noise too. it's the same thing as that in the 350 engine setup in 3gs and 2is. it doesn't always happen, but when it happens, it's pretty noticeable

Why does the LS use direct and port injection. Seems like direct would be all that is needed but I'm sure there is a good reason

I have had my 2007 LS460 SWB since Oct 06 and presently at 20K miles. My engine is so quiet that I could not hear the engine at idle at the gas station and I tried to check the oil level with the engine running!!! The AFS works great (low beams only).

As for the sulfur smell-mine got worse with time and after the recall on the fuel header. At first the dealer tried to blame it on the gas I was using per the TSIB. After much perseverance on my end and the dealer-they found a leaking seal on the fuel header/injector which allowed the engine to run rich when the car came to idle speed after a drive. I smelled the sulfur usually at the first stop sign and then the smell went away when I got the car moving again.
