Wondering what others are doing if your smart key is lost or stolen?
I'm new to this smart key thing so I called a locksmith and ask if they could get into my car if I lost the key. They said yes but they could not start the car. So I asked a lexus dealer and they said I would have to tow the car to the dealership. What if it is in the middle of the night, or in the middle of nowhere, or in a parking garage where a tow truck could not get to the car? Sounds expensive and very inconvenient. I've concluded that the thing to do is to hide a spare smart key in the car somewhere with the battery removed, and the metal key somewhere on the underside of the car. Any better ideas?

I [think] if you have Lexus Link, you're saved. As far as I can remember, they could remotely unlock the car for you but not sure if they would start the engine remotely (I don't trust my recollection).
If you don't have Lexus Link, then it's another matter. Here in Saudi Arabia if I lose my keys, it would cost me around $2,400 to have a new pair of keys.
My spare key is in a safe box within reach of my family members in case I needed it.

Here in the US, with Lexus Enform, they can remote unlock the car. However, as other threads in the past years on this board have discovered, it pays to keep your smart key in a safe place. Each smart key is actually the transponder key, plus a removable mechanical key. Losing that key fob is a very expensive proposition. Moreover, considering the inner groove design proprietary to Lexus keys, I doubt that the average locksmith could duplicate it or unlock the car easily.
