Default Update nav sys gen5 to gen6. Possible?

I'm aware of the many threads discussing the process of updating the navigation data and whatnot. I recall one CL member asked if it was possible to update gen5 firmware to gen6 (LS460 2010 nav system firmware). There were different opinions whether this was possible or not but there wasn't like a 100% sure answer to this question.

So who can provide us with a definite answer?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm going to purchase the nav update tool + the USB dongle to update the nav data myself. Now there are two different USB dongles: One for nav gen5 and the other is for gen6. So I thought to myself, since I'm going through the hassle of updating the thing myself and investing some good $$$ in the process, why not get the firmware updated as well if that was possible.

Thanks in advance.

pretty sure the answer is no. Gen 5 to Gen 6 is a hardware upgrade - firmware won't do it.

you can, just depends on how much you want to swap. my tech swapped a 4th gen system out of an 06 GS for a 5th gen system out of an 07 GS. its possible but you need to swap everything over. (navi, harness, navi ecu, etc...)

I was debating the same thing. Swapping a 08 ES350 Gen 5 out with a 11 ES350 Gen6 system. Dealer claims its really expensive but I'd like to know what is involved.

gen4 to gen5 is relatively "easy" because all harness and basic systems are the same, mainly just the ecu

but gen6 is a whole different story. just look at the back of the units, all completely different, different harnesses, etc... it's not something that can easily be done at all, let alone cost

Thanks for the input. I'll just deal with not having BT-Audio.

Now just to find the hardware bypass mod thread on here so I can use the unit can be used while moving.

buy the data systems controller -- if you don't want to pay prestigious' crazy price you can import it yourself. i think our cars take the TTN-46, but i haven't looked up the version in a while

Do you have any links? I tried to do a search an nothing comes up for what you described.

also, you can buy an external bluetooth audio box and just plug it into your cigarette lighter and the aux port in the glove box. RIM makes a blackberry branded one that should work

Yeah, this is what I use in my car and it's pretty decent IMO. http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CJABEPMCMAE

Just make sure you get a power source with it since it doesnt come with one. I got one of these along with a short Blackberry USB charger cable...http://www.google.com/products/catal...ed=0CHsQ8wIwAA
