Betting against the house

Extended warranties are offered because they make the companies who issue them a lot of money. Extended warranties are always negotiable. If your dealer decides they don't want to negotiate, then that is their way to get you to overpay. They are betting that people who can afford $100k cars, can and will pay whatever it takes to keep warranty coverage going on their car. Normally I would advise to skip any type of coverage on a regular LS, but since the hybrid is still fairly new and the batteries alone cost more then a cheap car, I would advise you get some type of coverage at the lowest price you can possibly find. Just make sure the coverage does not exclude hybrid specific components.

ext warranty
The basic concept of insurance is to spread the risk.Spreading the risk of many units and pooling the premiums to pay for claims. The more you spread the risk the better the odds of making money

I've been offered an extended warranty for my 2008 LS600hL, which I plan on keeping for another 3-5 years.
The price is $5400 for an 8 year, 125,000 mile policy that's identical to the factory new warranty.
Question:
Lexus knows their cars VERY well and offers this warranty to make a profit. With this warranty, then, they're betting that I'll use LESS than $5400 worth of the warranty services, while I'll be betting that I'll use more.
Does it make sense to "Bet against the house" and buy such an extended warranty?
By the way, the "Check engine" light on my car went on this weekend and when I took it in to Lexus yesterday, they'll need to perform about $5,100 worth of work (under warranty).

Lexus seems to be very proactive with issues in regards to hybrid components, even after warrenties. I can only imagine they really take care of someone who bought the flagship of the line at the time if something went wrong (as in goodwill adjustments etc).
I just got the extended warrenty on my wife's RX 400h to 8/125. A main ingredient is how many miles will you drive. We did some math and figured it was worth the bet based on current mileage trends.
Not sure how many miles you have/drive but make sure you drive enough to warrant extra coverage.
For my GS 450h I didn't get any extended warranty and (crosses fingers) have been lucky with hybrid reliability thus far.
