I have only one key fob (master key) for my 2013 LS.

I called the dealer and they said to provide another master key with programming and cutting, is about 430 out the door. (306 for key, 46 for cut, 80 for programming)

To me it does seem a little high so I researched within this thread but am getting confused..

Getting a key cut isn't so much a priority but it's a plus, however getting it programmed so it will lock, unlock the doors and trunk as well as starting the vehicle, etc.. is critical.

If I'm reading this whole thread right you're saying as long as I buy a used key fob on ebay or something, with a matching FCC number found inside my current key fob, it can be reprogrammed at lexus for only the 80 dollars they quoted me?

I called Lexus down the street and the service guy seemed a tad confused but perhaps I just wasn't explaining myself right, he did say I could buy another key fob off of ebay but says it may not be guaranteed to work.

If anyone can please verify and chime in on the above, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
I cant help with everything but, If you get a blank, you can find a locksmith that can cut these 2 sided keys. I found a local place when both my LS430 keys broke. They were $20 each to cut...seemed fair when I found NEW keys on ebay for $15 each (this was for a LS430)

As this subject is up... I want a Wallet key for my 2007 LS460L... is it possible to buy a used one from a 2009 and program it on my 2007 ?

It would be nice to get rid of a big key in my pocket... And can these be programed with a $15 cable and Techstream kit from ebay ? ( I need to check it out, I though there was an option to program them, I have techstream ebay kit)

Hi tofuprod,

I thought I answered this question on the other thread you started. Please check this older thread, post #5 for details.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...questions.html

I was in a similar situation in March 2016 when I purchased my car. I found a very knowledgeable auto locksmith in my town of <120,000 people. He bought the Lexus keyfob from his supplier (not Amazon as I wrongly remembered). I suspect it was a new key, maybe refurbished, I don't know, and didn't ask. It took him less than 5 min to program it for my vehicle. He had a device to plug into the OBD reader on the car and complete the programming. The key is a smaller version of the one key I received upon purchasing the car, but it has all the same buttons and works exactly the same way including remote start. My locksmith agreed to not charge me for anything unless the key worked.

Cutting the mechanical key was pretty easy too. Overall, I paid $160 instead of over $400 at the dealer. IMO, you could go the dealer route, but you are better off finding a good auto locksmith. Good luck!

You need to find a locksmith that can cut a laser-cut key. Call around until you find one that can. I had one done in Canton, Ohio for $25. Using a cable and Techstream that I bought on eBay for $30, I easily programmed a fob I bought off eBay for $88. Works like a charm.

Shop around until you can find someone that will cut the key cheaper than that. And if you are the least bit competent with computers you can buy the cable and software to program your fob for less than half of that programming quote.

That's not a bad price to cut and program the key If you don't have Techstream.

Hi, thanks to every one for the help. Problem my spare blade can't be cut is, It's thicker than original blade, so machine can't cut. I bought fob and key on Ebay, and check compatibility as req'd. Everything ok, until received the key and bring up to locksmith, the spare blade included is double thicker than the original. Because need it immediately and seller assured to me that it's can be cut, so i got it programmed and blade still .....uncut. Waist a lot of times and phone calls.

Just let your guys be aware that i bought 2 keys on Ebay from unlimitedpro13 for 229.00, (id:132819707668) and result as known. Waist time, effort and must return one with own shipping fee. So before buy them, must compare with original item and no trust on seller compatibility post. Thanks again.

For reference, this is the seller I used to buy my fob/key. Fob programmed and key cut with no issues whatsoever. Highly recommended seller. Fob came with a discount code for future purchases and they offer a $6.95 no questions asked replacement if broken or lost.
