so according to the VIN list that was provided my vehicle isnt in the range JTHBL46F77500xxxx

I would think that every LS from the range of time would have this issue if its a 3.3mm spring issue and they replace them with 3.5mm maybe there is something in the process that makes this range of 3.3s weaker over time that my vehicle didnt experience. They are all assembled at the same place from what I understand so not sure how you would have specific ranges of VINs, but Ill take it as good news at the time being.

this is a note they sent me off the lexus owners link

2007 LEXUS LS460
Special Service Campaign ALE: Safety Recall ALE - Certain Lexus GS 350, GS 450h, GS 460, IS 350, LS 460, LS 460L, LS 600h and LS 600h L Vehicles
At the present time, Lexus has not identified a remedy for this safety recall, but it is working hard to do so promptly. As soon as a remedy is developed, Lexus will notify owners of covered vehicles by first class mail.

My LS was manufactured January 2007, VIN JTHBL46F8750xxxxx, also not within the range submitted to NHTSA.

I wonder if some valve springs were manufactured by other subcontracted companies other than TOGO SEISAKUSYO CORPORATION. So only their springs are affected. Lexus were able to pinpoint the particular batch of LS's using these valve springs.

it depends on whether lexus has the new owner on record. if the record is known and changed, then yeah. but after i got rid of my ls460, i did received a few more mails
Henry, my understanding is the warranty increase is for all vehicles affected under this recall. The 1500.00 discount is from Lexus Corp, not my dealer and just for vehicles affected under this recall. I want to be able to use the discount when Lexus changes the body style of the LS. They weren't sure when the discount would expire. I might receive a call from Lexus today, and I will pass on the information.

You should look at the last eight digits of your VIN to understand if your car is affected.

The valve spring retrofit will apply to all 07 vehicles in the range of 75000193-75051857 and all 08s in the range 85051858-85083639. Yours seem to fall within that range.

I think you are basing your exclusion on the 9th digit which is a check digit.

I should look at the last 8 digits? Nothing before that means anything? Is that right?

My answer was misleading and I apologize for that. It was in the context of an LS460 and only applies to LS460s whose VINs begin with JTHBL46F. If the first eight digits of your VIN are "JTHBL46F" and the last eight digits are in the ranges 75000193-75051857 or 85051858-85083639 then the valve spring retrofit will apply to your car.

correct, I am presuming that mine as 77500xxxx are not in the range so not part of the recall.

Other than a supplier that had an issue I cant see how all models assembled at the same plant would not be affected. I thought it had to do with a 3.3mm spring that they were increasing to 3.5mm, if so then would they not replace ALL springs in all vehicles within the 3 year band? sounds like the process to make the springs was identified to be defective for only certain batches and I got lucky on mine.

Lexus may want to have one common message though, in the press, and on their site are lags, the press seems to be current and on their site they are saying there is an issue and they dont know what the fix is yet...

You should not consider that first "7" in the string "77500xxxx" to determine applicability - only the last eight digits. The 9th digit in the VIN (the first "7" in your example) is a check digit.

If your car is an 2007 or 2008 LS460swb and the last eight digits of the VIN are in the range 75000193-75051857 for the '07 or 85051858-85083639 for the '08 then the valve spring retrofit will apply.

Why are VINs starting with "JTHBL46F" part of the recall, jmcraney? I don't see that listed at all in the announcement.

I'm really confused!!

Here is a good reference to help you understand the VIN format in case you have some interest in that.

http://www.vinguard.org/vin.htm

To answer your question: All of the VINs for the LS460s and LS600s begin with JTH - the "J" indicates that the car was manufactured in Japan, the "T" indicates that the manufacturer was Toyota Motor Co and the "H" indicates the body style.

Here is a clip from the Defect Information Report that Toyota filed with the NHTSA.

I predict that most of the customers will come out of this very happy.

If Lexus would retrofit the "Triangle Trim" on every car - something that would cost a dollar or two per car - while they are in for the valve spring retrofit and make an announcement that the "Wind Noise" issue has been solved, they could make some lemonade out of this valve spring lemon.

Jim, thanks.

That explains it. Looks like I am part of the recall.
