Anyone had your brake pads replaced?
I am in the middle of my 30K service and the dealer service rep just called that I need new front brake pads and am 2mm from needing new rear pads. They want $399 for each axle. This sounds early for me. I do a mix of freeway and in town driving. I don't think I am hard on the brakes. Have you gotten new pads and at what mileage? Or are you much over 30K with plenty of brake pad remaining? Thanks.

Our 2007 has 50K miles on the original brakes and they look like they can go another 20-30k miles.
You can easily inspect them yourself by looking at the pads between the spokes of your wheel.

If you dont need rotors, if you dont have any shimmy etc when your stopping and by visual inspection of the rotors themselves and if its just pads you need Its easy enough to do yourself if your half way a handy DIY kind of guy. Its 125.00 for the complete front and back set of new pads.

Lead Lap
once mine run down, I'll be getting a set of Akebono PROact Ceramics for front and rear. I have those on my Acura TL and there is no dust with these. I also use Wheel Wax that really does a great job of repelling that dang brake dust the OEM pads throw off. With the Akebono's and the wheel wax, i never have dust issues

Thanks for the help. I decided to decline the dealer's offer to change the brake pads. I had the brakes checked by my mechanic who usually does my service and they said I could wait another 5K miles. My mechanic actually said that if it were his car, he wouldn't do it now. He also asked if the Lexus dealership was slow in their business. I told him that I called Monday morning to schedule my 30K service and the service rep asked if I wanted to bring the car in that morning. In fact, I brought it in the next day (yesterday). My mechanic (Mekatron of Concord CA) uses Akebono ceramics for their replacement pads and charges $100 less per axle. Since I am doing about 10K miles/year - this means a brake job in about 6 months. Looks I won't be using Lexus to service my car in the future.
