Last year when the 2010 "refreshed" LS was released, there was a big deal made about the "healing paint". Yet since then I've heard little to nothing about this. Was it for real?

It's real, AFAIK, but possibly one of those things where stories of its effectiveness over time probably need several years to come out. Nobody wants any scratches on their beloved car, but such things do happen. Hopefully the better paint will show improved resistance to dings etc. IIRC it takes several days to heal? Time-lapse photography would be interesting!

imho, this self-healing paint should be standard across all lexus lines. lexus paint is so soft, it's scratches if you sneeze on it!
(an exaggeration of course, but valid point none the less!)

Honestly self healing paint is a bit of a gimmick. It is not as you are thinking it is. That being said it generally is better than not having it but I would not make a big deal about it.

Well I'd be concerned if I had a 2010 LS460. I'm afraid the "self-restoring" paint isn't really self-restoring and yet matching the already-hard-to-match paint has become harder.
