Default "Low Key Battery"

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me what this mean "Low Key Battery, Have the Vehicle Inspected by the Dealer." For me, I think it means that the battery in my key fob is low. Please correct me if I'm right or wrong.

You can purchase a battery at Radio Shack, or any Toyota dealer. It's easy to change, but have it done right away, so you're not stranded and the car won't start. Change the battery in both keys while you're at it. I had this happen with both of my keys...

even without battery in the remote you can still start the car, it's in the manual. place the fob close to start button and press on it

you still have time, get batteries from ebay, cheaper

My dealer (Park Place, Grapevine) will replace the key fob batteries at no charge. Just ask for them to be replaced.

By the way, the battery is a panasonic 1632, other battery companies, everready, duracel, etc., use the same number. Average cost runs about $4 to $5 depending on where you go (radioshack etc.). You might want to consider carrying a spare battery in your glove compartment, however I've been told the shelf life is only one year. To replace just remove the key portion and pry the pod apart, reassembly requires you snapping the two halves back together and reinserting the key.

My dealer (Nalley Lexus, Smyrna) replaced the battery in my fob and gave me one for my wife's. I replaced that one by myself - pretty easy.

Contact your dealer. They may well give you a couple of batteries at no charge.

I'd beware of batteries bought on eBay, they'll probably be expired. If they are good, the shipping will end up costing you more than than just going to the store.

Rather then start a new thread on this topic I have a question. On my 07 LS I got the message once but it never happened again. How many times does it warn you? (I just got the message a few days ago)

The message is generated by circuitry in your remote wireless key to signal that the battery is near the end of its life. It may go through a period, near the end of the batterie's life, where you would get the message occasionally when you use the remote key. And then a period when you get it every time you use your remote key. And eventually may still operate for a few operations without the message. When you see this message one time then you should replace the battery in your remote key. The battery continues to be depleted even when you are not using the remote wireless key so it is possible that you will get the message only once or never if the remote wireless key is seldom used. The batteries seem to last about two years in normal use and I think you should routinely change them after they are in service for two years. The CR type batteries have a very long shelf life, low self discharge rate, but when they are installed in the wireless remote key they are being discharged all the time. It is good to keep a spare handy and although the self life is typically greater than 10 years it is shortened by high temperatures.

Default Key Battery

You can get "energizer" batteries from Amazon, a card containing five batteries for $4.39. I am amazon prime, so no shipping charge and I got them in 2 days. I had ones here for my 4Runner, same brand from amazon and they were two years old. I tested them with volt meter and they still had a full charge (3.6v) for the 3 volt batteries. So evidently the shelf life is pretty good.
