Default New Cell Phone

I just got a new cell phone. Can I keep all my phone numbers and stored speed dial numbers and just have the lexus recognize my new phone instead of my old?

I really dont want to have reprogram all of my stored numbers back in to the lexus.

thx.

Yes, as long as you do not delete the phone that was used to import your phone book. Just connect the new one and you should be good to go.

I have a 3gs and was able to transfer all the contacts by following the prompts on the screen when I got my car about a year ago. All transferred in a few minutes. The only thing is that they are last name/first on my phone and transferred first name/last on the car. Can't figure out how to reverse them. Other than that, it was a piece of cake.

I didn't do anything special - just paired the phone and followed the screen prompts to transfer contacts.

Your problem may be the difference in model year or it may be the I-phone 4 OS. When I got my car, I checked and the I-phone was not one of the Lexus "approved" bluetooth capable phones - it just happened to work. It may be that your model year has a different Bluetooth version or the I-phone 4 changed the version from the 3gs. The bottom line is that if your car/phone combo doesn't easily transfer all the contacts at once by following screen prompts, you're probably not going to get it to work.

I remember seeing a thread when iPhone 4 came out that someone had issues transferring contacts. If that's the case and 1 by 1 is the only option, your other option would be to use a different phone to transfer your contacts and them simply connect your iPhone for everyday use.

the problem is the car, not the phone. only 2010+ lexus with gen6 system can allow iphone contact transfer directly. prior to that, it's a royal pain. you have to store contacts to sim, move the sim to another phone that's compatible with the system, and then transfer. basically iphone setup is different and just won't work with systems prior to 2010.

regarding retaining contacts, once you transfer the contacts to the car, does it matter if that "phone" is still there? because the contacts are physically stored in the car hdd already. for example, i paired my previous phone with the car and transferred a few contacts over. even if i wasn't in the car and my wife was, she could see and use those contacts as well.

Henry,
Phone doesn't have to physically be present in the car. That's not what I meant, sorry for the confusion. Phone's profile must not be deleted or else you will loose a phone book imported by that phone.

I have an iPhone 4, and I don't really see the point of dialing via the car. All you have to do is have the phone locked and hold down the home button for 3-4 seconds, it will do the double-beep through the car and let you do voice commands to the phone via the car speaker.

"Call <person's name> mobile"

And it dials them right up.

Default HTC Hero

I was having problem downloading contacts from my HTC Hero but then I downloaded the free "Bluetooth File Transfer" app from the Android market and used it to do a mass sync of all my contacts to my 2007 LS460.
