Default Can Lexus void my warranty?

I took my car in for a braking issue 2 weeks ago now and theyre still working on the problem. Thursday I got a call from the service rep and she said that the tech had been working on it and asked if my car came from an auction or something because it had an "aftermarket suspension" installed. I think what she referred to was the lowering module. Either way, she said that the tech disconnected it and the problem continued. I just found it kind of weird that she threw that in there even though it had nothing to do with the brakes. I was just a little concerned that they would try to find a way out to keep from making an expensive repair and say that they warranty was void due to the module. Can they do that if it comes down to it?

They would have to prove that the modification you made to your vehicle was the cause of the problem.

I doubt it, but is it a CPO?

Exactly they need to prove that whatever part you had installed caused the problem you are having. And not simply because the car had been modded that its a automatic void in warranty.

No CPO on the car. I thought I'd just ask about the warranty because of the way the SR inquired about where it was purchased from. Although the dealer auctioned it off and the place where I got it from purchased it. Either way, she said when they disconnected the module, the problem continued. Good to hear that it wasnt the problem. And to think, I'd plan on going with an upgraded brake system just for looks.

The sad reality is that they could cause a big stink about it, and delay delay delay your fix. However, stick to your guns and don't let them tell you what's up! Remember you are the customer!!

I thought there was something w/ the Magnusson (sp ?) -Moss Act that disallowed voiding a warranty just because aftermarket parts were used ..stick to your guns is good advice ..I think they have a burden of proof if they state a mod / aftermarket part causes them to not want to service under warranty ..and I think it applied to only that situation ..

Thanks guys, for all the info. I will hopefully hear something today from them and take it from there. They have not mentioned anything about the warranty but I was just asking because of the way the SR was asking questions. I'll keep you all posted.
