Default Transco license plate holder

What is that big black thing infront of the front license plate? Is it some type of tracking device? It said Transco with some serial numbers on it.

If you are from Dallas or Houston, it looks like an electronic tag for the toll roads (TollTag for Dallas, EZPass for Houston). Most cars have the tag mounted on the inside windshield, but certain cars with signal blocking windshields had to get license plate mounted ones. My gramps had a Buick Roadmaster (of all cars) that required one of these. I think this is something similar, but could be wrong.

They are used in Washington state too; this instruction sheet shows an exact match to the device you have. So YES, you are being tracked.

Track? For what?
It was on the car when I bought it. Should I take it off?

Well that is what a transponder is for, but like others have said it was most likely installed by the prior owner for toll road use. If I had found it on my car, I would have remove it, submerged it and then dissected it for enclosed listening devices. Paranoid you say? Maybe.

I'm from houston. And I use the same Eztag for the toll roads here. If you just bought the car, then take it off if you don't use the tolls here. However, if you do use the toll roads here.. They will just give you a new one to put on your license plate or if you don't have the rainsensing windshield wipers, get the one that sticks on ur windsheild.

Thanks..I took it off but the screw doesn't go all the way in thus the plate is loose so I put it back in for now...I guess I'll swing by the Toll office to pick up one.

Get that ugly *** thing off of you beautiful luxury car. I had a front plate on my car and took that thing off, let alone a black transponder....
