Unhappy Maintenance Catch-22

Does the LS recommend the use of synthetic oil?

I'm just wondering how or why we have a 5k maintenance schedule when almost every other luxury marque is on a 15k schedule.

One of the motivations of going with Lexus was for the reliability so I won't have see my dealer as often as I did with my MBs and BMWs, but it occured to me, I'm seeing them just as often now because of the maintenance.

And unlike when things broke on my other cars, I could usually just hold off until I got a few issues and take care of them all at once during a service visit, of course with maintenance, I can't do that (hold off).

I do drive a lot, so perhaps I'm more sensitive to that, but still, why can't they do a 15k service interval?

The oil change interval has changed in '10+. I think it's now every 10K miles or so. Not sure if it was an actual modification on the engine or just a firmware change.

Oh, that's interesting. I would love to confirm that and if so, is there anything for us to do to get on that schedule.
