Default 2007 vs 2008+ MPG

So I picked up a 2007 ls460 recently and have been quite impressed with the MPG. Like it enough to maybe buy a newer model but notice the difference in the MPG. What gives? What changed after 2007 that dropped the mileage from 27 to 24?

new EPA rules regarding how those MPG numbers are calculated -- the drivetrain has no change. look up www.fueleconomy.gov for more info

I will do that but I just did a trip to Dallas this past weekend and got 26.5 at 85MPH. So I am claiming they are true.

I just did a trip from LA to Phoenix and back in my '08, averaged 27.0 highway. I usually get around 17 in city and local driving.

On a recent highway trip at a steady 70 mph for 400 miles I managed 30.5 mpg. Around town, averaging 25-28, I get about 18 mpg. Unfortunately, I spend most of my weeks in the 18 mpg range. Gotta love commuting in the ATL.

I still have not had a chance to take the LS on a long trip. I am looking forward to cruising to LA from Phoenix and back. I am sure the added comfort, power, and luxury over the GS350 I had will make it an ideal car for any long trip. I love my LS. The number I am hearing here from other owners is about the same as what the V6 in my GS would provide. Gotta love the 8 speed tranny

I have a Phoenix trip to consider too, but the family is suggesting the SUV over the Lexus.. they are concerned Ill flip out if the car takes any rock hits :-) They know how protective I am about it.. but I did just get back from Palm Dessert from So Cal, about an hour each way, so not really too far, but that is the only trip I have taken outside of my 8 miles to the office .. I can tell you its is definitely a highway cruiser. Ipads in the back for each of the boys, tethered to the Iphone so they have net access and the wife in the front reading on her IPad and checking mail. ah... the family cruiser of 2011!

Cool Long driving trips - here we come!

Hi, everyone. I just bought my Red 08 LS460 at Lexus of Tulsa this past Saturday (coming from 2 Acura RLs and an original 90 Q45 - back to rear wheel drive and a V-8!) and drove the 110 miles home but had about 35 miles of test and city driving also - got 21 mpg. We will drive to Wichita, KS this coming weekend - 300 miles - should be a good test of the trip mileage. This car has 25K miles and is fully loaded - I am already spoiled by the ML system but still figuring out all the other bells and whistles. You are certainly right about how great iPads are on a trip, cmasten, I don't know how we got along without them before! We have two, plus Kindles for reading (much better in bright sun).

Starting to get the spring bugs already ::- do any of you have any experience with a clear front bra or something like that to make bug protection and cleanup easier after a trip? Thanks, Jeff
