Default Help, LS 460L engine RPM, clicking and shifting

Just recently bought a 2008 CPO LS460L with 26k miles and executive pkg, I've been noticing that on cold start the engine revs peak to 1500 rpm and then slowly comes down to 1200, and then to 1000. I give the car a minute or so just so it gets to about a 1000 rpm before I start to back out of the garage. Wondering if the rpm levels on cold start are normal? Also, the shifting is a bit jerky in the morning, and I notice a slight engine clicking sound regularly which gets more pronounced when the a/c is on. This is my first Lexus and so any help or insight is highly appreciated. I had a BMW 750Li before but don't recall the engine revs nor hearing any clicking etc. Thanks in advance.

Net, the cold start engine revs is almost identical to mine and I believe that it is normal as long as it idles down to about 600 rpms after the engine is warm. Also, I can feel my first two transmission shifts when the engine/transmission is cold and I have read that others observe the same thing. I would not consider it as jerky however, and it too, may be normal. It is not bothersome in my car. My engine is extremely quiet with or without the air conditioner on......no ticking, clicking or other unusual noises. If the VSR recall has been performed, it may not have been performed correctly. Recommend you drive another car similar to yours in mileage/year model and compare, then discuss with dealer if you still have concerns. Keep us informed as to your findings. By the way, congratulations on having the best car in the world.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know about the VSR, now wouldn't that be reportable maintenance item for Carfax?

It should, but not necessarily. You can't always trust CARFAX. You should ask the dealer to check your VIN to see if it was done. If it was previously completed, they should have a record of which vehicles the VSR were performed on.

What you're noticing is what I've been living with for two years. Non-issue.

You may notice the rpm fall to 500. That too has been reported by many LS460 owners.

You can research a more accurate summary of maintenance for your Lexus at www.lexusdrives.com upon joining. It should reflect most all work performed on your vehicle by Lexus dealers and sometimes other work if recorded by the previous owner.
