Default How long do you "warm up" before putting in gear

It will literally take my 460 3-5 minutes to get to an idle below 1k and everytime I shift into Reverse in the morning at 12-1300 rpm I cringe. My old 750 would high idle for 45 second then jump down to 750 rpm.

Is it normal on this car (or most Japanese for that matter) to wait about 30 seconds and then shift into gear when idle is above 1k prm?

BTW- the outside temp is 60-80 degrees, might be worse/longer/higher rev if it is colder out.

Thanks for input. I am probably overthinking this whole shifting during higher idle

Unless it is super cold and my car has been sitting outside, about 30 sec. Otherwise, start the car..check my mirrors, adjust radio...drive

You're not going to hurt anything by driving it before a 3-5 minute warmup.

Yeah, possibly. Probably a good idea to give it 30 seconds then shift. Who knows? The manual doesn't address this issue but I have read many articles which advise that a warm-up of modern engines is not necessary although it does not mention the ideal rpms when shifting.

Mine will idle high for about 30 to 45 seconds. I live in a warm climate so its usually not even needed to warm the car up beyond the 30 to 45 seconds. The garage temps will get into the low 100's in the shade in the summer and spring. Winter in AZ means 45 to 50 degree temps at night ( burrrrrr)lol

I don't warm mine up at all. You're running synthetic oil, so I don't see the need. I take it easy until the engine warms up...
